I love the module and understand that its still in beta but when in flight the spit sounds are just awful. It sounds like a lawnmower.

If you strike you prop and the engine dies you can hear a jet engine in there for some reason.

I realise that they are probably/Hopefully just placeholder sounds but they really need sorting out.

I love flying this thing though, she's a thing of beauty.

I wonder if they hired someone from the old Il-2 modding community, or just use the same database of generic engine samples, because yesterday's hotfix brought us the very same low RPM sample (ExIn2.wav), which is being extensively used in various Il-2 mods for radial engines :D. Makes the Merlin sound a bit awkward above 1000 RPM, but I'm sure it's not the last iteration of this aspect of the module.

Here's the real sound for comparison.

Anyway, I wonder every time someone says "I don't like the sound", or "I think it could be better", what's your sound rig? Are you saying that from a cheap headphones set? Or even worst, not cheap but bad quality ones, some people think because they spent 100$ in "gaming" headphones they are good. Does your own sound equipment live up to the current sound quality of the module before asking for "better" quality?

I find sounds to be more than good, and having enough quality.

I think it's not about the sound quality per se, but about samples themselves being used. When You've got a popular P&W or Wright radial sample being used to emulate a V-12 Merlin at certain RPM range, then You don't need anything above smartphone speaker even to know something doesn't add up.

For comparison, If You played a racing sim, where some Chevy V-8 engine soundset, no matter how glorious, was used for a BMW straight-6 for example, would You still say it's OK? Hardware quality has nothing to do with it.

Edit: that being said, just today, in another thread, Jafa confirmed that after releasing his Mustang sound mod, he plans to work on the Spit, so, we'll be allright :D.

I kinda agree that DCS in general is lacking behind in the sound department comparing to the rest of the sim platform. Yes the sounds have been improved alot the last year or so but i still think the sound of the jets and prop planes could be alot better.

Most of the sounds used in DCS in my opinion lack what i would describe depth, atmosphere and immersion when it comes to sound. Now again im not a sound specialist im just thinking out loud.

Graphics wise and when it comes down to realism controlling aircraft DCS is absolutly the master of its domain. If the sound engine and the sample sounds are improved we are looking at the absolute KING of flightsims.

Sorry to say mates, I'm in multiplayer right now as I write this. Sound is GORGEOUS, pretty good engines, you can even tell whether you are hearing a P-51 or a Spit even being similar. And guns sound is perfectly fine, both machine guns and Cannons. Please, buy a good quality headset.
