Ermintrude Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 So I bought the Normandy map, assets, and Spitfire from the store here, downloaded and installed DCS2 and the Spitfire (just 10 mins ago), but can't see the Normandy terrain or assets in module manager. It helpfully lets me buy Nevada, but I didn't think I had to buy that to fly the Spitfire. Can anyone help? I'm a little frustrated. What am I doing wrong?! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
LcSummers Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) Ermintrude read this: but before installing the map you have to update dcs 2 to 2.1 QUOTE This fixed it for me, ED should probably make it a sticky or something = less digging required for others. Baracuda Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Or try this: Use this utility it did it for me. Read the explanation how to use it. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160053 Hope it helps.

You're not doing anything wrong, but there are some issues with the updater starting the downloads automatically. First, c0ff requested that if this happens, before doing anything else, upload the DCS.log file (probably in C:\Users\{your_user_name}\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha\Logs depending on your Windows installation and user name). Alternatively, if you have already done something else in DCS, re-run the updater to generate a new fresh DCS.log file to post. Now you can do the update manually. Everything in full detail is listed here (Note, the guide is in reference to the release DCS World, but you will be using "DCS World 2 alpha" instead): GUIDE: Using DCS Updater to Update, Revert, Repair, or Install Modules, but here's the short-sweet version, thanks to Azazel with a couple of corrections from me: go into your Eagle Dynamics/DCS World 2 OpenAlpha/bin folder, probably here: 'c:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\bin' depending on where you installed DCS World 2 alpha. There, hold Left Shift and right click and click "Open Command window here." (NOTE: the new windows 10 has moved to powershell, in powershell type cmd ) then one at a time enter, the following two commands and press enter. After each command, the updater will start, which will take several hours, so you will have a long break between commands. DCS_updater.exe install NORMANDY_terrain DCS_updater.exe install WWII-ARMOUR Alternatively, you can run both updates at the same time, but one of the devs said it might take longer in the long-run, but you would be able to just use one command and let it run without having to wait for the first command to complete. DCS_updater.exe install NORMANDY_terrain WWII-ARMOUR From my experience, after running the updates, when you start DCW World 2 alpha, you will be requested to enter your keys, one after the other, for the Normandy map and the WWII assets pack, so keep your keys read to enter them. That's it, and happy skies ;) EDIT: da-amn, I be slow :) 1 When you hit the wrong button on take-off System Specs. brimlad Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 so is this something that they will fix in the module manager or are we stuck with this ramshackle solution ?
Baracuda Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 No worries it will be fixed . Until then these are the solutions to get the job done and enjoy the Normandy map and assets pack.

Cassius Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 For those who run with Windows 10 Try this command prompt: .\dcs_updater.exe install NORMANDY_terrain WWII-ARMOUR It seems to work for me... And good luck! Edit: Normandy Map and WWII Assets pack works perfectly now. Just follow the instructions above in the thread: Good flight!:) Thanks! That way realy works for my Win10
Markindel Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Thanks for this explanation. I also had the same problem. Now I'm downloading the map of Normandy.

the_soupdragon Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) So EVENTUALLY (after about 60Gb of download and much gnashing of teeth) i have managed to get Normandy Installed. Using DOS commands of all things (what century are we in again??) But now I can't use it. Where is it? how do I use it? I am just exasperated that a major realease can go so bad. It's just ludicrous SD. Edited May 27, 2017 by the_soupdragon Toning down [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
TwilightZone Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 tried to get it to work last night....no luck....tried this morn, got a message box saying Normandy can be downloaded now ......downloading now. they must of put out a fix....happy days..;-) P-51, 190-D9, 109-K4, Spitfire MK IX, Normandy, and everything else:joystick: i7 4770K, 4.3ghz, 32gb ram, Windows-10 Pro, Z87 Exstreme4, Corsair 850w psu, Samsung Evo 1T SSD & 250 SSD, Titan-X 12gb OC, Asus ROG Swift 27"/1440p/144hz/1ms monitor, Trackir 5, TM Warthog & 10cm extension, Saitek TPM, MFG crosswind pedals
ramjet77 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Same problem for me. I downloaded both Normandy and the asset pack via the command window. Asset pack asked for licence when I started DCS, Normandy did not and now just endless loading screens due to missing files. Tried a repair, update and re download of Normandy and the asset pack but cannot make any further progress at this point.
Weegie Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) I'm with several others who had the map install automatically, but nothing in the Mission Editor to choose..................just fire straight into Nevada I ran the suggested Updater mods and although the asset pack was not installed it was obvious the Normandy map was, as it did not download anything when requesting the terrain_NORMANDY via the updater. I then ran a repair and also checked the version, it is up to date at 2.1. Ran DCS again and got asked to validate the Assets Pack, did that. Still nothing Activated the Normandy map manually, although it looked like it installed automatically first time, after running the activation, it told me 9 left, so unsure if it activated automatically the first time or not. Re-started DCS and after all that still no further forward, still no map option in mission editor or anywhere else........................unless I'm missing something!!! Getting a bit frustrated!!!! Sulaco Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Wow... I know it's alpha and everything but needing to open a terminal window in order to install/update the terrain pack is beyond unacceptable.
supesoft Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) same for me, updated to 2.1...but Normandy doesn't show up in the module manager as being available. Interestingly it shows up along the bottom (as a tile) along with the other modules, giving me the option to 'buy' it (again!) That's exactly where I am at here. Same situation where I have keys but the module manager is an empty shelf. Doesn't show, however, Normandy is now available to buy in the row of icons across the bottom of the main menu screen. No option to insert purchased key anywhere. I "checked" the keys via dcs profile while logged in, then returned to game, only to see no change or option to download or install. I refuse to CMD because of the possibility of infringing upon user agreement, and so elect to wait for a proper solution, where the product is presented in the normal fashion, inside the module manager. I always play it safe. But, I guess that's probably why I never get caught seen floating under a parachute.. Anyway, really looking forward to getting Normandy installed. I'm sure it'll be sorted out soon. It always is with Eagle Dynamics, in the end. And just look at the quality of these modules and maps. It's truly never been a better time to be a simulator fiend. Thank you DCS, for being the flagship for all aviation simulators, to date. And well into the future I'm sure. See you all there. Edit: Installing now. Upon running DCS 2.1 the following day, Normandy install prompted immediately and automatically began installation once entering the module manager. Assets followed the next time I entered the module manager, and is installing as I type. Yay! Good day. Edited May 27, 2017 by supesoft
Mortifa Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) The Normandy map has shown up and is installing as I type, hopefully the asset pack will follow shortly. The asset pack started was available as soon as I started DCS after the Normandy map was installed, thank you. I agree using command line is asking a little much of your purchasers. Edited May 27, 2017 by Mortifa Fate is inexorable...

While I agree with you, I was commenting more with the thought of the less computer savvy among us. Don't forget about the time spent troubleshooting before jumping to the forums and hunting for the correct info here aaaaand then trying to figure out the whole terminal thing. It wasn't a big deal on my end and shouldn't be for many of us but I'm sure there are people out there still trying to figure the whole thing out as we speak. Either way, not the end of the world for most of us. Mine's running fine now and doing an excellent job of waving its arms while jumping up and down, yelling "it's time for a new PC!"
