dburne Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Finally got mine (again) after getting the touch and extra sensor on Monday. Such a joy to fly the Huey again. dburne Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 (edited) No touchless option? No, the new bundles will only contain: Oculus Rift Touch 2 Sensors Free games that come with Touch Activation (7). They will no longer offer the Rift alone without Touch, at least that is what is being publicly announced so far. Considering previous to this current 399.00 limited time sale, it was 599.00 for Rift alone with 1 sensor and no Touch, the new pricing even including Touch is a pretty good deal. But also they are dropping the X-Box Controller and Remote out of the new bundle as well, those can be had separately. For me having Touch, I would have to wipe a lot of dust off my X-Box Controller if I decided to use it as some point again. I will tell you , being a hard core flight simmer, I thought what do I need these Touch controllers for? Kept reading great things about them, and am so glad now I got them. I have had a lot of fun with some Oculus games with them. sze5003 Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 I'm sure you can also use a regular Xbox controller with the rift as well. I think I got the old bundle coming. Not sure why I haven't received it. Amazon says there are no stock issues but can't tell me why it hasn't shipped yet. It was suppose to be here yesterday. To be honest I don't need the Xbox controller, the only difference is it's with a wireless PC dongle. I am really excited for the next consumer version, although all talk previously points to 2019 before we see it. Oculus Connect Developers Conference is in September and will be interesting to see what info they share with us at that time. If they can pull off higher resolution, FOV rendering and eye tracking as planned, along with maybe little wider FOV it will be incredible. dogbite Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 (edited) No touchless option? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I know what your likely thinking. I only fly sims and don't need these controllers. I didn't order Touch when they arrived for a similar reason. Although I do play other things, I always hated Xbox type controllers, preferring keyboard and mouse as most non-console gamers often do. This is not that. In VR "hands in game" is so much more immersive, than without. Touch is an amazing way to play in VR. You can grab and throw things, stroke a pool cue, swing a golf club, go bowling, swing a sword, climb a mountain, fly down a mountainside in a wingsuit, look everywhere while firing two weapons in different directions, manipulate Google Earth VR with panache, manipulate thruster packs in zero G space, and so many more possibilities. Even the hardest core simmer likes to do others things. The exercise value alone will save on a gym membership. Don't kid yourself you will use them. Even if I am wrong, someone in your circle of friends or family will be absolutely blown away by them. People will flock to your side to play with your stuff. OK, now I'm stretching it, but be assured, this is a gaming experience unlike anything you have experienced. I have never heard anyone say " I have them but never use them". sze5003 Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Amazon wanted me to cancel my order when I chatted them to ask what happened to my rift bundle. It still says expected 21st but still says not shipped yet. The chat associate recommended I cancel and re order since it's listed from a different seller now. Glad I didn't let her cancel it. rrohde Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 (edited) Gotta say - this VR thing is something else. I am totally blown away by just sitting in a DCS module's cockpit. This is unbelievable. The first time using the Rift in DCS I was just shouting out superlatives because I was so overwhelmed with awe. Once airborne, the feeling of flying at altitude is real. ... totally, and utterly immersive. The feeling of getting sick is also very real and it happens very quickly - but I felt like that in RL when I took some lessons in a Cessna years ago. :) I seem to fly a lot more careful now because I am now inside the cockpit - rather than looking at a cockpit on a 2D screen. It is all so stunningly real. What a difference it makes..... wow. Just wish the gauges would be more easily readable - but like everybody else says: the immersion is so much more enticing than anything a 2D display can offer. Congrats , you are in for some fun times in VR! Not much you can do outside the Rift, in fact most settings in Nvidia Control Panel will not even affect the image in the Rift. Best to set your graphics in game GUI. Try increasing the Pixel Density. Make sure your IPD is set to optimum for your eyes, should have been done during setup. Adjust the headset position on your head for best image clarity. The Rift does have a somewhat narrow sweet spot, and having it positioned correctly makes a difference. You can see this by adjusting up and down a little. aceviper Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Hats off to ED for a great game in VR. Had the rift a couple of days and first impressions were not good. The low resolution sucked big time after playing in 4k. But after setting up the touch controllers and playing the free Robo Recall and Dead and Buried my impression of the rift changed dramatically for the better. You can see where this is going. The fun ramps up exponentially. After shelling out 36euro to get VR working in my FSX and playing for a couple of hours I put on DCS 2.1 Nevada and what a difference. DCS is much smoother and playable and really its amazing overall. When the next generation of VR headsets comes out with higher resolution DCS will only get better. So thanks ED for not requiring a fee to play DCS in VR.:pilotfly: 1
