Can't wait to try it out (June/Juy/August - best guess on my part). I figured the M1's will need some tuning so I gave it some buffer from the Q2 dates specified int the pimax forums. I must say, they are quite responsive about giving out details.

Sounds like they are settling on 80 HZ, as someone that gets motion sick pretty easily this should be interesting.... supposedly 90 HZ was the min you want to avoid causing sickness. I guess if it is really bad I can just sell it.

The DK2 was 75hz. Had no issues with it. What will matter is the in game frame rate.

Yeah, DCS with 45 and ASW doesn't cause any motion sickness. Also, even if you do get motion sickness, you can grow a tolerance for it by playing little bit at a time.

I've recently purchased the PiMax 4K.

Compared with the other Mixed Reality 6DOF HMD, it has only 3DOF.

At the beginning I deactivated the Yaw/Pitch/Roll boxes in my TrackIR leaving the X/Y/Z to compensate this defizit. I've also done the same in DCS Axis Assignment/TrackIR, and it worked!

For unknown reasons the second day once I activated my TrackIR, I lost the Yaw/Pitch/Roll in my VR. It came back when the TrackIR was deactivated. I couldn't find a way to make it work again. Does anyone have an idea how to make it work again?

I actually see this as very good news. As DCS is very demanding, this means less fps required to get to max capability and smoothness. I doubt there will be much of a perceptible difference between 80 and 90 fps.

Not sure about perceptible... but I am worried about motion sickness... but only time will tell if that 10 HZ is enough of a difference to cause motion sickness.

Unless your the kind of guy that gets dizzy with one foot off the ground 10Hz isn't going to affect you.

What a silly response... you just make up a bunch of random numbers to try and discredit something that is important to many VR users. Not only simulator sickness but comfort and immersion. The 10HZ difference is something we won't really know the effects of until we get the units in our hands.

https://thevrbase.com/why-does-the-90-hz-refresh-rate-matter-for-virtual-reality/

"From a consumer-grade point of view, 60 FPS and 90 HZ is more than sufficient for the time being. Any type of content below that framerate should be avoided. Additionally, the screen resolution can still be improved quite a bit as well, which is more important compared to increasing the framerate right now.

Do keep in mind it is possible to watch 60 FPS content on a headset supporting a refresh rate lower than 90 HZ. It will not necessarily be a pleasant experience, though. VR hardware can certainly be improved to allow for higher refresh rates as well until the hardware catches up. It is evident the framerate is fine for VR content right now, yet the refresh rate of headsets may need further tweaking."

Well, most of us play in VR with framerates of 22-45 and most of us don't get sick because of it. 90 is great! but it almost never gets there in DCS. I wouldn't worry about the 80Hz vs 90Hz. Its not a problem in DCS because most of us can't reach that anyway.

Yep, I am more worried about the software solutions of Pimax to guarantee a smooth gameplay than about the refresh rate of the HMD.

If they don`t manage to implement their Brain Warp or any other kind of ASW we won`t have too much fun in DCS.

Thing is... FPS and Refresh rate are not the same thing... https://www.avadirect.com/blog/frame-rate-fps-vs-hz-refresh-rate/

Have any kickstarter backers received any updates from Pimax? I have not gotten an email in months.

The latest news a few days ago:

Hi Futurists,

Only those who spend hours a day in the virtual world and have tried out all types of headsets are eligible to claim what the best VR experience is.

We are glad to have a community full of such enthusiasts - many of you have witnessed the evolution of the home computer and consumer VR, even the early wave of VR headsets back in the 90's.

Like in all emerging industries, enthusiasts play a crucial role in pushing the boundaries of VR. In fact, the inspiration of Pimax 8K stems from the interactions with enthusiasts in this community. For the last two years, you have been contributing thoughts and feedback based on your experience with 4K, (and other headsets), which in turn has allowed us to build and shape 8K.

We are about to start a round of closed beta testing for the Pimax 8K M1 prototype. The goal is to have some of you to test the prototypes from both professional and enthusiast's perspective, and let the Pimax team know how the experience matches up to your expectations. All feedback, suggestions for minor tweaks, and of course your time, is greatly appreciated!

Here are the steps for the closed beta:

  1. We will email our chosen testers to confirm their participation (around 10 in total, to account for availability of headsets and manageability of the program), starting this week
  2. We will start shipping to the testers as soon as M1 testing units are ready.
  3. Testers inform Pimax team when they have received the units
  4. Shortly after, we will announce the testers in the forum
  5. Testers answer a standarized questionnaire from Pimax team - the questionnaire will let you know what stage to complete it at during testing and when to have it finished by
  6. Testers join the closed discussion and communicate with Pimax team - Login details for the closed forum will be shared alongside the questionnaire
  7. Testers agree on a release date that allows all testers to have time to organize the reviews - this can take place in the forum
  8. After the testing period is over and we head into the release day, testers can now answer questions engage in the open forum with the rest of the Pimax community about M1 and their experiences

Bests,

The Pimax Team

Pimax are sending out ten units for beta testing as I write this. Expect reviews to follow mid April at a guess.

Their videos are finally getting better. First video without camera shacking or flickering.

Quality of texts seems great in the Pimax. Let`s hope it`s not a monitor screen they have filmed this time.:D;)
