Flying is awesome, but I'm also REALLY interested in the RIO implementation of the F-14 Module. I think operating the weapons systems/radar/etc.. would be pretty great.

Tons of opportunity for communication/teamwork.

We'll definitely be excited to pair up with human RIOs! I also think this aspect of the Tomcat will make flying a ton of fun!

I'm not, I like to pilot the plane, and I just have a preference of not liking having another person in my plane, AI is fine, but another player is a no no for me.

I do like the idea of it, but like in the real aircraft I bet (especially in vr) you'll get really sick really quickly when your pilot is doing all sort of erratic manoeuvers!!!

My vision is poor, so yes, I'm looking forward to being an NFO! :megalol:

To implement the pilot/RIO relationship wouldn't we need an in game SRS type radio? Without an intercom that was built into the game it wouldn't really work they way it would need to.

You can just use SRS (which already has an intercom function) or Teamspeak.

I'm obviously extremely biased... but some of the best multiplayer experiences i've had, in any game, has been testing multicrew in the tomcat, both as RIO and pilot.

The whole crew coordination thing is just really awesome, the AWG-9 is almost like a meta-game inside the sim, and just having a second set of eyes is extremely useful. Aaaand, if you get bored of the pilot trying to show of by buzzing towers here and there we've left some sweet easter eggs in the AWG-9 :joystick:

Hopefully the word Easter doesn't hint at the next teaser release date lol.....j/k!!

I like flying and consider myself a slightly above average ACM guy, there are always people better and not as good as an individual, and I think the RIO opens up some training opportunities and help not provided by single seat modules or a single person operated 'Cat.

The USN embraced the NFO idea with the F-4 and once the MiG engagements started it immediately became obvious that the extra set of eyes was an immense advantage, especially in the Phantom with the visibility problem it had rearward. Another thing is you can put a more experience sim pilot in the back and you can teach a fledgling "naviator" what he should be seeing, talk him through maneuvers to counter threats, etc.....I've already worked a deal with a squadron mate to fly his back seat and help coach him through BFM/ACM situations until he can be successful on his own; he's a Hog driver and not experienced at all in fighters, you can see how an arrangement like this might help him survive and actually learn.....hope I don't let him down eh?

I understand that in real life a good RIO can make the difference between a fair pass on a night trap instead of a greasy stain on the fantail of a carrier. I think it'll be very fun and interesting to sit in back and watch my front seater make passes and coach him through those as well.

Lastly, the guy who I will be back seating with was a Surfman with me at a lifeboat station in the Pac NW, we worked well as a team in real life in some hairy situations and I honestly think that our already established crew coordination habits could provide us with a slight advantage in some situations.

I'm 100% on board with this, a true two seat multiplayer fighter/interceptor.....I just need to be able to learn the BVR stuff cold so that I can help him outside of a few miles passed the pitot!! :-)

i´m so looking forward to this modul.

also have a arrangement with 2 buddies of mine.

and we will switch seats from time to time. one of them is a pretty good Viggen pilot and i´m looking forward to beeing his RIO for AG missions or maybe later TARPS missions. especially on the DCS 2.5 terrains.

i would also love to see some Navy Fighter Weapon school server on the Nevada map with instructor pilots on the back seat for ACM to learn how to get the most out of the F-14. i think after release of the F-14 other modules will cover alot of dust :-D

Are you kidding? You know how many "TOPGUN" servers will go up the weekend this jet releases? People already buzz the airfield with "look at me" passes. The only good servers without the craziness will be the password servers until people get it out of their system.

Hopefully. The Forrestal has spawn points on the parking locations and not on the cat, or landing area like our other carriers. Otherwise pandemonium will ensue.

I am aware, I've used it many times in the Gazelle, but without having the specific ip or autojoin feature activated the other person won't be ready to just hop in and communicate. It is reasonable to say the program can integrate the SRS functionality into the framework of the game itself.

My point isn't that we can't do it. My point is that it should be an intuitive feature for the end user. People like us.

Spend a couple dollars and get Fleet Defender on Steam. It's not going to give you 100% of the experience of flying the Tomcat in DCS, but it does a decent enough job of giving you an idea of what you're going to have to do with the radar.

I second this. It pales in comparison to what's available today, but for its time, Fleet Defender was the cream of the crop when it came to combat flight sims.
