Hmmm, very interesting! I just started up 2.5 open beta, checked the start screen for the version number, it is 2.5, but I now have to install NTTR, Normandy, and F5 campaign. It didn't appear to have copied any files from 2.2 open alpha. Maybe my registry link wasn't made. I vaguely remember moving my 1.5 OB and 2.2 OA tI an SSD many months ago, but have run repairs on 2.2 since then. I might have to send a bug report. Oh well, downloading the other stuff now.:( guess that's why I didn't get the option to remove after starting the updater.

by the way: whats the best way to totally clean a DCS game folder from any changed/altered and added files? The repair function seems only to replace changed/altered files and moves those to the backup folders. But added files like liveries etc. that did not replace any vanilla files, is there any way to clean those out automatically? Can't find my file where i noted all the changes i made to the various DCS installations.

Similar way as with repair, just different command. Get into bin folder, launch command prompt window and type DCS_updater.exe cleanup.

Mind you, there might be still some unwanted junk in your Saved Games/DCS location on system drive, if you installed some mods there as well. Neither repair nor cleanup script touch that location, so you'll have to clean in up manually yourself.

Yup, that was it. Just checked the registry. It's still pointing to the old drive from last August. Completely forgot that I had moved those two installations.download is an additional 35 GB. Doesn't matter, there's over 200 GB open on my drive. No bug report necessary. All my other modules appear to have installed.

Speaking of hard drive space, anyone needing to free up some should look up windirstat and download. I found that my Windows folder had bloated to 50 GB, I was losing a lot of space to pagefile and hibernation file, and there was some 50 GB of junk files on my drive. I was surprised to find so much wasted space given that I've tried to keep my sim desktop's SSD as clean as possible.

About how much free disk space will be needed on my drive to do stage1 ? I have both 1.5.7 & 2.2

The reason i ask is that i have only 25GB free on my ssd drive. I have no reason to keep 1.5.8 after install, is there an option to NOT keep it? my 2.2+1.5.7 are pushing on 130GB already.

Well about 85% downloaded so far, getting closer. Likely though going to be tomorrow now before I get a chance to really dig into it.

In my opinion dump 2.2. It did nothing to copy files over for the new build.

Yeah apparently mine did not, at least I don't think. But I had moved it over to a different drive, but I had changed the path as well.

Did you change the registry key to match the new drive you put it on? If not, the installer wouldn't know where to copy files from.

How long did the download take for you guys?

I snagged onto the download really quick this morning when it was first available , and still going. Probably around 4.5 - 5 hours or so to this point with 86% downloaded.

I bet by the time I get home it won't get done until late anyway. I am on a 100mb fiber line so I hope it's fast.

I had 10 MB/s up and 35 Kb/s down. Now that's fair trading. :D

My update worked perfectly!

I had all 3 versions installed:

1.5.8beta

1.5.8stable

2.2alfa

I've now updated 1.5.8beta to 2.5beta and let 2.2alfa be removed.

Since this merges 1.5beta and 2.2alfa, adds some and replaces a few files and gets rid of duplicates...

It basically turns out to use up about 35GB less disk space than before.

My 2.5beta is now using 99GB in total.

I have the following modules installed: FC3, Mig-21, Mig-15, Mi-8, BS2, Huey, F-5E, Spit, Mustang, Nevada, Normandy and pretty much all Campaigns for these modules.

Keep in mind that it downloads first and then unpacks the files, so temporarily you would need some more space.

I did not sit there and watch the thing but I would recon you need at least 20GB of free space.

Don't quote me on the numbers, I cannot exactly remember how much free disk space I had before.
