1.5.8 and 2.2.0 to 2.5 transition Discussion

My update worked perfectly!

I had all 3 versions installed:

1.5.8beta

1.5.8stable

2.2alfa

I've now updated 1.5.8beta to 2.5beta and let 2.2alfa be removed.

Since this merges 1.5beta and 2.2alfa, adds some and replaces a few files and gets rid of duplicates...

It basically turns out to use up about 35GB less disk space than before.

My 2.5beta is now using 99GB in total.

I have the following modules installed: FC3, Mig-21, Mig-15, Mi-8, BS2, Huey, F-5E, Spit, Mustang, Nevada, Normandy and pretty much all Campaigns for these modules.

Keep in mind that it downloads first and then unpacks the files, so temporarily you would need some more space.

I did not sit there and watch the thing but I would recon you need at least 20GB of free space.

Don't quote me on the numbers, I cannot exactly remember how much free disk space I had before.

I have 27GB left when download is complete..

Did you change the registry key to match the new drive you put it on? If not, the installer wouldn't know where to copy files from.

I sure did, and I suppose Dburne did as well. But even then the updater seems to be struggling with correct detection of installs on separate physical drives. We're not the only guys with this issue.

Oh well, if nothing goes wrong, only a few hours left :D.

I may be in the same boat but I guess we will find out when I get home. I moved both 1.5.8 and 2.2 to a new drive and changed the registry for 1.5 and created a key for 2.2 because one was not in my registry.

As long as I still have my saved games which I backed up I won't care if 2.2 needs redownloaded.

I had to download everything too, even though I had corect registry entries. After it finished, the installer said the 2.2 was succesfuly removed, but it was not, it's still there.

You mean in mission editor? Start new mission (from file menu) and you'll be able to chose from available maps.

Ok I see it now. The letter of the two map are so small I did not see them. I guess me being a little in a hurry didn't help.

Gentlemen, here is some explanations how your current 1.5 (and/or 2.2) will be converted to 2.5, please take a look the attached diagram. Transition will be made in 2 stages:

Stage 1: 2.5.0 Open Beta. The 1.5.8 Open Beta will be updated to the 2.5.0 Open Beta. The updater will check for 2.2.0 (Open Alpha) and add necessary modules from 2.2.0 to 2.5.0 to avoid unnecessary downloads.

The 2.2.0 Open Alpha and 1.5.8 Release will remain at this stage so you can continue to play online with those still using 1.5.8 or 1.2.2.

Over the next one to two weeks, we will be carefully monitoring 2.5.0 Open Beta reports in order to move to Stage 2.

Stage 2: 2.5.0 Release. The 1.5.8 Release version will be updated to the 2.5.0 Release version. You will be prompted before updating to 2.5.0, and you will have an option to save a 1.5.8 Final version to a separate directory.

The 2.2.0 Open Alpha will no longer be supported. The 2.2.0 Open Alpha will be updated to the 2.5.0 Release version.

Modules from 2.2.0 Open Alpha (or 2.5.0 Open Beta - see Stage 1) will be used during the 2.5.0 Release installation, after which, version 2.2.0 will be uninstalled after prompting you.

The 2.2.0 Open Alpha will no longer be supported. If you only have the 2.2.0 Open Alpha, the updater will suggest that you download the 2.5.0 installer - it will then install the 2.5.0 Release version and remove the 2.2.0 Open Alpha.

Home Folders (Saved Games\DCS) will remain in the same location (Saved Games\DCS and Saved Games\DCS.openbeta). New Saved Games\DCS.release_1_5 will be created for the 1.5.8 Final version and all its content will be copied into it from Saved Games\DCS. We also strongly suggest that you remove the Saved Games\DCS\Config\options.lua file and set up your graphics settings from scratch, given the significant differences between 1.5.8 and 2.5.0.

Old Caucasus will be updated to new one automatically.

Activations. All activation keys are saved in the Windows Registry and NO additional activation will be required.

1.5.8 Final version installer will be available on DCS site.

Transition planned in January 2018.

It's a shame she was released

For all who have issues with the file copy from 2.2. Close your download and just manually copy the terrain folders from \DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\mods\terrains\nevada and \normandy to \DCS World\mods\terrains\. Be sure you have both \nevada and \normandy in your \terrains folder.

After that, use Windows Explorer, Navigate to the Main DCS Folder, Hold Down Left Shift, and Right Click on the /Bin Folder and Choose Open Command Prompt Here). and type in the Command Prompt Window: "DCS_Updater.exe update" and Press Enter.

If done correctly, you only have about 22 GB to download. At least it seems to work for me. Instead of 49 GB i only need 22 GB.

I did get a chance to launch 2.5 at least, all looks well with my install.

Really looking forward to tomorrow to get my VR settings adjusted and some time in with it over the new Caucasus.

So I'm wondering if I should switch to Http? Any thoughts. I have 500mb/s download speed at the house and I'm only 25% done 4 hours in currently around 100kb/s down doing the torrenting. This is pretty crazy at this rate it will be over 24 hours.. I'm uploading 300kb/s so definitely getting hosed on that deal. Any suggestions? Would http get me there quicker?

Hard to say, it would be a gamble. Plus pretty sure if you choose to switch it starts all over from the beginning.

Never tried http but if source files are the same I don't imagine it would start over.

I did http once before and I believe it did start over at the time. But that time it wasn't faster. I just kind of threw myself to the back of the line if I remember right...but that was a while ago. I believe when 2.0 dropped...
