Spudknocker Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I was plinking around on google maps looking at the georgian landscape and maps. I looked at Kabuleti beach and then saw the X runways just inland from the beach and saw that it was called Kobuleti Airport... Why is this not an active runway in DCS? is it because it is too small of a runway for jets? I think it could be a fun little airport to fly Warbirds or the Yak-52 from... Thoughts? grunf Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Too short for jets? I don't think so. :D I agree with you, I'd like to be able to properly use this airfield, as well as the two slightly larger ones near Kutaisi. 1
Destroyer37 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 One thing you can do now is place aircraft on the ground as "Takeoff from Ground", now you have a blank canvas, throw some buildings around it and have fun! 1 Specs:Fractal Design Define R5 Black, ASUS ROG Strix Z370-E, Intel Core i5-8600K Coffee Lake @ 5.1 GHz, MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti 11GB 352-Bit GDDR5X, Corsair H110i, G.Skill TridentZ 32GB (2x16GB), Samsung 960 Evo M.2 500GB SSD
Art-J Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 It's an old, ex-military airfield used once for paratroopers school. Theoretically still on ICAO register, but no idea if anyone is using it anymore. Seems pretty much abandoned since God knows when. It's a characteristic landmark so it's on the map, but DCS doesn't have these small civvy airfields "operational" so to speak. By the way, you'll find two more in the game, north east, in Kutaisi city. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

Ala13_ManOWar Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Wow, so many time in DCS and haven't the faintest of Kutaisi extra strips. Still, I have the vague feeling of having land there without noticing they are closed… Hope the new Georgia map feature some of this goodies as well :D . S! Tinkickef Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 (edited) It would be great if mission editor had the tools to build airfields ect eg blocks and radii of concrete for building runways and taxiways, lighting and also stuff for building towns was th streets ect. Modders could make towns, villages and more detailed airfields in the correct places and put the files up for incorporation into the maps. The maps would populate far quicker than ED doing it all themselves, all they would have to do was verify the quality. Or the modder could just do it for his own use. After NTTR and the astoundingly detailed airbases therin, both Caucasus and Normandy are screaming out for airbase mods, not all of us want Normandy to be stuck in 1944. So someone mods some bases for Normandy 1985 for instance, we could have different Normandies for diffferent time periods. Even the English coast could get some love, Southampton, Brighton ect, even Cowes ect on the IoW. Ive done a few villages, but they look rubbish without proper streets. SUNTSAG Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 With the help of Mods I use all three of these as Alternate/Diversion/Dispersal Airfields. I can Rearm Refuel and Repair then continue combat operations. An added dimension to my mission builds. Callsign: NAKED My YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Eldur Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Just had a glance at the map, and came across this thread. Fun thing is that in DCS "Kobuleti" is actually Meria, and I remember seeing pictures of it with bomb craters, but those have been replaced. It's like this now: https://www.google.de/maps/@41.9293541,41.8638113,1818m/data=!3m1!1e3 Reason for checking simply was I couldn't find that airbase in the other sim to take off from... The moment you realize you're flying over a historic map almost on a daily basis in DCS
reece146 Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Yeah, I put some of SUNTSAGs FARPs and other support buildings and structures there and turned into a civilian airport for "background noise". It's home to the "Adjara Flying Club" in my DCS world. All the cool kids fly their Yaks, CE2s, TF51s, and Edge 540s in and out of there. :)
