msalama Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Hiya - It used to be that the graphics.lua parameter "trees = {min, max}" determined how far trees and forests are visible. Alas, it has absolutely no effect anymore, and I'm getting this annoying trees popup even if I put the sim on extreme visibility. What should I tweak in order to change this? I took a peek at Extreme.lua as well, but all tree parameters there are obsolete as well. Now what is a boy to do, if boy wants to see forests far, far away? The DCS Mi-8MTV2. Tone71 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Isn't there now a trees visibility slider? Put it up to 100%. msalama Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 Put it up to 100%. I of course did. No dice. The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
msalama Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 Ah-ha! Options.lua has a "forestDistanceFactor" now, gonna put it up to eleven next and see how everything explodes and my graphic card fries to a crisp. I'll keep ya posted. The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
msalama Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 Nope, neither "forestDistanceFactor" nor "treesVisibility" do anything. And the trees visibility cutoff is far, far too close to my liking. Ideas? The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
Tone71 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 I of course did. No dice. I see, you want to satisfy your need for even more trees! Not looked into this yet and tbh haven't really noticed the cut off distance of the trees (bet I will now!). Will have a look too and post here if I find anything. 71st_AH Rob Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Are you looking from a vantage point on the ground or in the air? For me it seems the higher I am the closer the max draw distance is. At 2000 ft only trees directly below me are visible. Zoom in and they grow like mushrooms out of the ground. I'm not sure what settings to use,it looks nothing like Wags videos.
msalama Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 Roughly the same here Rob. I go up to 2000-3000ftish and they grow like a speeded-up beard stubble as I move forward. Just wondering what to tweak to get rid of this... The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
katdog 5.0 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 (edited) Yes I had this issue too, esp in 2.2. In fact, Normandy was rendering flat and popping in like mushrooms everywhere. unplayable. 2.5 seems to have fixed it and the tress visibility seems to have solved it...? Unless I changed something...Hmm EDIT: Ok, not fixed exactly, but Normandy way better... its interesting to pause the game then slide the trees visibility to see it in action. The first part of that makes sense, I guess. The higher you are, the closer to your nose the draw distance would be because the slant range increases. You're telling the sim to start drawing trees when they are "X" distance away. The higher you are, the closer to your nose the trees would appear because, otherwise, the range increases. In the end, you are only seeing the individual trees you told the sim to let you see. I have my tree slider set to something like 85% (I think) and the distance individual trees start to break out seems about right. Your gamma setting will also probably have an effect as to whether or not the draw distance looks odd to your eye. With my settings, the trees seem to slowly differentiate in most situations. Or maybe I'm just not being critical enough. :) YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU1...CR6IZ7crfdZxDg _____ Win 11 Pro x64, Asrock Z790 Steel Legend MoBo, Intel i7-13700K, MSI RKT 4070 Super 12GB, Corsair Dominator DDR5 RAM 32GB.
baronnomis Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 guys, for me they are drawn good 30km away, even when im at 24000ft.check the screen. tree slider at 100%

Just wondering what to tweak to get rid of this... After going back and checking mine actually fade in, a good distance away too, no noticeable pop up (talking Caucasus here, not tried Normandy yet). Joker69 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Trees set at 80% are already sufficient. They are no longer seen growing from the ground and are ready and visible to the horizon. It is necessary to check if there is any other parameter that generates the effect of delay on the trees. In my case everything seems perfect. baronnomis Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Those aren't trees, they are just a well disguised blanket texture. they are though, you see them pop up as you are closing in.
HiJack Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 they are though, you see them pop up as you are closing in. Precisely what we try to avoid. :music_whistling: We want the trees to not "pop up" but be there as normal trees.
msalama Posted February 2, 2018 Author Posted February 2, 2018 Found out something Deferred shading is the key factor here. If turned off, the color difference between the trees and the forest floor bitmap is quite large and the popup becomes noticeable, whereas turning it on makes them almost uniform in color and one hardly notices it at all. So please try turning it on and report back please :) The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

I agree, but back to the topic: some trees are drawn at incredible distances, some are draw when you are closer to them. Depending on tree type/location/GFX settings ? (thats wild speculation of course)
msalama Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 Did you delete the options.lua? Who, me? Yeah, I did, after copying the settings I use from the old file. The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
Evilducky Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 (edited) Im trying to do the same thing. I changed the config file for visibrange to extreme, but I cannot get an autoexe.config to change that. But making that change added a bit of distance for the trees. I was trying to tweek it more, but could not for the life of me figure out how to make it further. After I figure out the trees, gotta work on the grass next. First screenshot is high, second is extreme Edited February 4, 2018 by Evilducky

Evilducky Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 (edited) I found a file to change to increase the tree range but making that change cause some fun graphical glitches (up close objects and things disappear) but there has to be something else that increases just the tree range (and maybe grass as well).
