Abburo Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 As the title said, any news or insights about the dedicated server could be very useful to know about. Please ED, this topic was forgotten lately. PS: 2.5 is marvelous ... it will make me come back to DCS wit more dedication. HiJack Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 It would be good to get some info but if there is no news we will not get any :( Any comments from others than ED will just be speculations.
upupandaway Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 I agree, a statement of intent from ED would likely be appreciated by a number of people. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Deedle, deedle!
Jarlerus Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 I guess when they (ED) learn some good multi-core/multi-thread programming skills? As they now know that about half of their community flies in multiplayer, I guess dedicated servers are still on their agenda. Maybe they just need to figure out how to handle the situation with some communities having servers with modules first? It would basically make those "investments" worthless. It's a bit of a PR nightmare, I guess. I really hope they figure something out, and get it done! Multi-core optimized dedicated servers have a high potential for DCS, IMO! //Jarl Jarl at YouTube DCS Service Span and Wishlist Spreadsheet Forum post for discussion of above spreadsheet Retro Electro Playlist on Spotify
Banzaiib Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 /shameless bump @Drex Ah, multiplayer. The bastard step-child of DCS. If DCS multiplayer was a Game of Thrones character, it would be John Snow.
ouPhrontis Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Can an instance of DCS for use as a server currently be run headless, if so is that without any graphics card or integrated graphics? Johnny Dioxin Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 As they now know that about half of their community flies in multiplayer Have they stated this or is there any proof? I ask because they have always said the vast majority are playing single player (and Flaming Cliffs aircraft are more popular) Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS; Pimax Crystal Light I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!

Can an instance of DCS for use as a server currently be run headless, if so is that without any graphics card or integrated graphics? No. That is the ask of this thread. We would like a truly dedicated server that can run on proper server hardware.

We would like a truly dedicated server that can run on proper server hardware. I get that and understand what's being asked for, just curious if it can currently as-is be used headless, what I get from the thread is a stripped down server version without the graphics components, but some applications will run headless anyway, though of course it comes with all the things we're not interested in for server-side. Home Fries Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 With the additional theaters, it's getting to the point now where we will need a dedicated server so that people who run servers don't need to purchase two copies of theaters. The problem we're facing is that people justifiably don't want to buy two copies, and as a result we don't have as much of a variety of theaters for multiplayer action as we should. A possible workaround could be not requiring licensing for a node that has options.graphics.render3D = false or allow multiple copies of the same license to play as long as they come from behind the same firewall. -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
