Any additional effects coming to 2.5?

Thanks ED for the fantastic 2.5 release, even though it's beta, it looks extremely promising!

From what I've seen so far, this version contains a lot of new visual treats:

 

- Lighting effects

- Ground explosions

- Clouds

- New Tree system

- Waves

- Flak explosions (WIP)

- Tracers (AAA)

 

I wanted to know if you plan to release additional effects in the coming months?

 

Would really appreciate new air explosions and longer lasting smoke trails. Are those planned at all?

 

Any other visual effects we should expect?

Wags has mentioned rain on the canopy.

It would be really nice if the exterior lights affect ground surface and other surfaces like hangar interior (walls), nearby buildings etc. etc.

I ejected over the Black Sea and as I approached the water in my parachute the sound of the crashing waves was very ominous and matched the new wave effects very well. It made landing in the water quite a memorable experience I can tell you! Thanks ED!

Since we're speaking about lights;

 

In my honest opinion, we need additional shadows instead of new effects.

 

If there's no sun in the air, there are no shadows on the earth in DCS environment, if an object is being illuminated by artificial light, such as pole lights or aircraft lights.

- Rain on canopy

- new air explosions

- more different ground explosions (each vary from each other due to the different warhead types of each bomb/rocket/missile)

- vapor cone

- clouds based on a new system

 

There are probably many more but just to name a few of the most popular ones.

Effects in DCS World are heavy WIP, many new and improved effects still in the works. Even explosions are still heavily WIP, work is ongoing for explosions specific to weapon type, etc.
This is great to hear! I'm just as excited about these as I am about the arrival of the F-18 and F-14.

Thanks so much for the updates! So much to look for.

Anything done regarding smoke generated by various missiles? What I would really like to see is smoke that stays longer in the air, the current model dissipates way too fast for A-A and Maverick missiles.

Effects in DCS World are heavy WIP, many new and improved effects still in the works. Even explosions are still heavily WIP, work is ongoing for explosions specific to weapon type, etc.

 

In NTTR (and maybe all three maps now) a direct bomb hit on armor appears to generate a different animation than a near miss. It looks as if a 0/0 shack generates a blacker explosion with more flame at impact and little to no dirt column.

Yeah, I believe that is part of the tweaking, weapon type and where it hits should affect the uhh effects :)

These are the ones I can remember reading will be added, in time, as well. Weather effects in general and turbulence as well.

I agree about the increased number of dynamic shadowing light sources, though not about not needing more effects ;)

 

It would make a nice difference to have casting shadows on objects (at least other airplanes) when being illuminated by artificial lights, most important for instance the landing gear lights and the Air refueling lights... would be great to make them project shadows over other planes/objets or on the basket and the tanker when AtA refueling...self shadowing is not that power demanding nowadays so might be possible...

Please make a slider for amount of smoke from destroyed vehicles and how long it lasts, I mean they added one for chimney smoke density lol... thank you ED !

 

I can get behind that, I want to see more adjustments for things like that, same with contrails length and durations...

I think we need both at the same time, some time.

 

Contrails that cast shadows on the aircraft, smoke that cast shadows on the ground, smoke effects that won't be illuminated by the sun light when they are hidden behind an aircraft or building, fixed shadow edges as well as many more things would all be great but we can't have one without the other in my opinion.

I would love more shadows, shadows from multiple light sources, but I think shadows are some of the biggest performance hogs in most games, has to be a balance for sure.
