It's probably about right for deserts, or powder snow, but for grasslands? It's absurd....and it makes me very sad when I try to do my sling loading, which is hard enough :joystick::helpsmilie:

I know what your saying. I have found if I add some wind and set dynamic weather I get hardly any to no dust. Indeed going back with no wind I was suprised at the amount of dust thrown up it had been a while and actually gotten used to no dust.

i like helicopters and wind.

you fly them like sail boats.

ie when you need to stop you turn into the wind..

and unlike with sailboats, if you miss time the turn. you don't ram into a jetty :)

Yes, actually it feels sterile without wind now. :D

You might miss the jetty but there are lot of other things to ram into. :P

About 7 to 8Mtr/s feels good for me.

Any plans here to increase the dust effect under certain conditions ?

Especially with all those planned desert maps?

That effect is very old and hasn't been updated, it's one of the one's that need it, same deal with some large calibre gunfire (naval guns and artillery) and dust/mud kicked up from tracks and wheels from vehicles and ship wakes...

I too think the dust is a bit to much. But simply let it rain and the dust is gone.

I don't really think the dust is too much. Maybe rather too little in the deserts.

Always figured that was stuff like grass and weeds and - well - dust being thrown around.

Anyone else notice that the first pic is a truck making the dust, pic #2 is only a Gazelle in game?

Yep, there is a lot of variability due to the nature of the soil type, generally unless your in a "dust bowl" there is only a small flush of dust, even on dirt airstrips.

I have also not seen a chopper take of 30mtrs away.

Brownout is a real thing and is extremely dangerous. 2 of 3 Canadian helicopters that crashed in Afghanistan were due to brownout rather than enemy fire.

The DCS brownout effect is very under-simulated. In the desert maps it should be so thick as to block all visibility outside 10ft or so by the time you slow below TL on approach.

I was reading the Visual Special Effects chapter in the 2023 newsletter and was wondering if with all those new and planned helicopters,  is there any plan to improve the brownout / dust effect, maybe as part of the new volumetric cloud system ? 🙂
