Havner Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I've seen this mentioned in the newsletter, but not in the 2.5.1 changelog. Is there supposed to be any difference? For instance launching the Su-25T training mission for Vikhr and Mercury pod I see virtually no difference. It's still pitch black compared to 1.5 and 2.5 without deferred shading. Mercury pod is also almost unusable. In 1.5 and 2.5 without DS you could see the ground very clearly. In 2.5 with DS and 2.5.1 it looks like the contrast is waaaay up. Black ground with white sharp object here and there and virtually no colors in between. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I dont have any trouble being able to see in the dark, I just user the gamma slider in game, and it works now as good as it ever did for me. But however the lighting is still bugged and looks bad from a certain distance. Adjust gamma for each and every mission day and night for a better looking experience! ------------ 3080Ti, i5- 13600k 32GB VIVE index, VKB peddals, HOTAS VPC MONGOOSE, WARTHOG throttle, BKicker,
Havner Posted May 3, 2018 Author Posted May 3, 2018 Adjust gamma for each and every mission day and night for a better looking experience! That's hardly a solution, merely a workaround. Still it doesn't solve the issue with Mercury pod. Try the training mission I mentioned. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Emmy Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 From what I understand, they've "tweaked" night lighting but there should be even more improvement with the next update. Pizzicato Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 I've seen this mentioned in the newsletter, but not in the 2.5.1 changelog. No. It's not available yet. The Newsletter states: "As we draw closer to the early access release of the Persian Gulf Map for DCS World, a key focus has been on improving the night lighting. [...] Once this effort is complete, we will move these changes to our other maps." i7-7700K @ 4.9Ghz | 16Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | MSI Z270 Gaming M7 | MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti Gaming X | Win 10 Home | Thrustmaster Warthog | MFG Crosswind pedals | Oculus Rift S
Havner Posted May 5, 2018 Author Posted May 5, 2018 No. It's not available yet. The Newsletter states: I had the previous newsletter in mind (27.04.2018 ): In addition to many important bug fixes, 2.5.1. also offers updated night lighting. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Pizzicato Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 I had the previous newsletter in mind (27.04.2018 ): Ah, I see. I guess that means there are some limited improvements in 2.5.1, but we'll only see the major changes with the release of the Persian Gulf map (and beyond). i7-7700K @ 4.9Ghz | 16Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | MSI Z270 Gaming M7 | MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti Gaming X | Win 10 Home | Thrustmaster Warthog | MFG Crosswind pedals | Oculus Rift S

Yep I will admit it works for me only within the limitations of whatever mission scenario I happen to choose which is ussually a ground attack helicopter of which I already know all the systems/buttons! ------------ 3080Ti, i5- 13600k 32GB VIVE index, VKB peddals, HOTAS VPC MONGOOSE, WARTHOG throttle, BKicker,
ED Team NineLine Posted May 5, 2018 ED Team Posted May 5, 2018 Work is on going, and the changes will trickle into DCS as w go along, some of the major ones, like you saw in today's newsletter will take a little longer as they are using the PG map as a test bed before moving them to other maps. Pikey Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Yeah @easyEB, you can see some early shots of it on the website files, it's not in the beta though.Night lighting "lights" are very muted as you noticed. Frederf Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Gamma is a non-linear fudge factor of intensity. It maps 0 to 0 and 1 to 1 and values between on a curve much like the curve in joystick sensitivity. Gamma is a per-user adjustment due to differences in hardware and preference. Ideally the average gamma used is 1.0 (no change) with some people reducing and some increasing. If significantly more users are increasing gamma than decreasing gamma then there is a problem with the lighting engine. New lighting engine associated with DS is too dark as is known. When it is finalized you should have reports of most users using 1.0 gamma and close to equal numbers decreasing and increasing gamma from 1.0.
