There is also Microsoft documentation, which covers the configuration options:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/using-steamvr-with-windows-mixed-reality

That document is outdated in some respects, e.g. motion reprojection, but still useful in other ways.

Could you elaborate how it is outdated. I am still using the configuration file as described, because the reprojection setting in SteamVR settings does not seem to have any effect for me.

Good to hear it is working JasonJ, don't be sorry about asking it is what these forums are great for!

Your next challenge will be getting reprojection enabled (a must have IMHO), some instructions here (this is for the beta version, which is probably worth opting into, the same with SteamVR):

Has anyone been able to see DCS in the list under 'Per Application Video Settings' as described in that link?

It's just that the motion reprojection section of the settings file is quite different now. Disabled by default.

Thanks, I had not even noticed that the file structure had changed.

It works with both, but it will stay in the list only if you have the steam version. If you don't use the steam version, you still can access it but only while dcs is running.

As you can see from above, two of us don’t see it even if running!

No it is the standalone version, DCS only appears in the SteamVr settings if it is running for me. This is with beta versions of both WMR for Steam VR and SteamVR

Makes sense, I misunderstood your first post about it. I had thought you meant that you had to run DCS once and then it would show up. I have never tried to look at the SteamVR settings while the game was running.

Hey Jason...

My HP Reverb runs like a charm in DCS... with windows miced reality for steam VR... make sure you use the Beta version!

I’m afraid it doesn’t for me. Don’t know what could be wrong!

Thanks @Zap42

Yes it is working. Just now learning about the reprojection modes and SS / resolution optimisations

Getting choppy frame rates below 90fps, but I will sort that out like I did with the Rift-S once I understand and implement WMR's version of reprojection.

And thanks to everyone who posted links to the documentations. I will have this sorted out and running smooth.

depends on your definition of work, you can certainly use them to click switches, though to be honest it is less cumbersome to use a mouse... you can't use them very easily or reliably or to be honest functionally to control the joystick/throttle

It was more to click things as a workaround until I had a workable VR pit. My issue mostly is that my portable desk doesn't fit between my hotas when its mounted to the chair, so the mouse slides all over the place.

There are a couple of approaches , one is to bind a mouse click to one of your hotas buttons, which can then move your head around to click which works quite well, and the second is to use a trackball and secure it to the side of your throttle or similar... hth

I do this with the trackball and it works quite well.

Question about:

Headset Display - Visuals Setting (WMR Portal)

Hi

Does any one know what this setting (found in the Mixed Reality Portal) does in DCS ?

1513635525_WindowsMixedRealitySettings.thumb.png.2b0e657d293845a6f8a247462fdfae5d.png

1) Does it have any effect in DCS

2) What kind of visuals are affected?

I can't see any difference so leads me to think it is not supported in DCS.

I noted a few suggest to use the Very High (beta) setting, but can't see any difference.

3) If any effect in DCS, does Automatic just pick one based on you PC specs?

I found this in Ubisoft - Eagle Flight Forum 2017 but doesn't say what effects are changed:

Stuttering and poor framerate encountered on Microsoft Mixed Reality headsets:

Some video cards default to "Very High (beta)" settings when using the "automatic" quality settings for Mixed Reality visuals.

Fix: Open Windows Settings, search for "mixed" and select "Set the visual quality of Mixed Reality." This will enable you to set the quality manually to either "Medium" or "High" depending on your PC specs.

It has no impact at all, it only impacts images inside the wmr portal itself, so as dcs is rendered directly in steam it won’t make any difference. The one that does, is the refresh rate , which has several impacts including graphical quality,

that said there are some changes coming through, which means that with the refersh rate the only thing that will change is the refresh rate, everything else will be "separate"... why is this important , because of frame times. most of us struggle to maintain 11ms or less frame time for cpu and gpu required to maintain 90fps, but the frame time requirements for 60 is something like 15 or 16ms which a lot more people ... no if the only thing that changes is genuinely the frame rate then that might be worthwhile, the downside however is that if you can't make 60 you will get 30... which might be horrid.
