in the headset after you launch the game do you see the blue diamond screen that appears then dissappears or the black diamond screen or does it just launch into WMR portal??

Probably a frequently recurring question, but I’m looking for a vr headset with mixed reality capability. I was thinking of the quest 3, but I’m wondering if there are others on the market that might actually perform better. 
FYI, I have a 7800x3d cpu, 4080 gpu, 64gb ram and nvme ssd drives.

The Varjo XR-4, but last I heard, the software is a mess.

The upcoming Somnium VR1 may be a good one.

But right now, it is hard to look past the Quest 3.

This is a thread about WMR though, and official WMR support will end later this year when 24H2 launches.
The Quest 3 isn't a WMR headset.

I've really enjoyed my G2. its just been solid (aside from the pre order mess with faulty leads)

Disappointed MS cant just 'leave wmr as is' instead of near bricking wmr reliant headsets, which I can only assume may still work in steamvr post wmr removal?.. though doesn't the wmr portal handle the device initialization? and I'm guessing without that, it is brick?

It is yes. Personally I blocked windows update from even installing 24H2 using the Group Policies editor. I don't feel the need to replace my G2 yet, so I want to keep using it.

That's a new one for me. Are there instruction you can point to explaining how to do that?

Edit: Disregard. It looks like the editor isn't available in the Win 11 Home version. Only Professional and above.

Yes and that’s exactly the reason I always stick to Pro models of Windows: even though I am a “Home” user, I do actually use some/many of the added functionality that the Pro version adds.

That being said, there might be a registry tweak that still works on Home versions.

Well  do we know for sure now if the WMR has been dropped from Win 11 and is not able to DL from the store?? I was going to get win 11 but I have a G2 headset and no money to replace it ..

WMR will be dropped only if you install the latest 24H2 feature update. I see that you have Win11 Pro, you can stay in 23H2 if you follow this guide:

I did this and so far no problem with G2.

My PC updated to 24H2, WMR portal will open but say "You do not have an operating system that works with WMR" and your headset will no longer function.

Sorry to hear that.  I was just checking, but no update for me yet.  Must be dropping at different times in the world, I'm US Arizona

well I have win 11 Pro so I can shut off the feature updates. so I should be good for a while but I am guessing I need to start collecting funds for a crystal light..
