Pilotasso Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 BTW I have asked this a few times and no one answered so far: Doea anyone know what Serial numbers corresponds to the last Cougar build revisions? Does anyone fly the stock cougar for more than a year? What are its issues? .
ED Team Olgerd Posted April 9, 2007 ED Team Posted April 9, 2007 Pretty much. You should contact them for prices. I had a chance to try A-10C gear and liked it's quality very much though. The 'joysticks' are totally hand-made. Nothing of original Cougar is used in the hardware, except of Cougar drivers (and may be a controller chip). [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] К чему стадам дары свободы? Kula66 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 BTW I have asked this a few times and no one answered so far: Doea anyone know what Serial numbers corresponds to the last Cougar build revisions? Does anyone fly the stock cougar for more than a year? What are its issues? I've had one for years (since the early F4 days). The 2 switches on the throttle have come loose ... I glued the 3 pos switch in place and that fixed the problem and next time I have to strip it, I'll do the same with the speed brake switch. The only other problem is the pot in the throttle died ... bought a standard replacement and fitted it ok. That was a few years ago and I've played a fair bit of LO since. I couldn't justify the cost of the hall effect ones! I really like my Cougar ... really solid bit of kit! I twist rudder would be nice ... I haven't got the setup for peddles and using a switch is nowhere near as good.
Shaman Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I'm using latest rev. of HOTAS Cougar for half a year. It's serial number is 26500. No problems so far. I didn't need to glue anything like Kula66. Stick came with latest software. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
SUBS17 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Someone from the FO forums recently tried to talk to hirevsims about purchasing a Hotas but they are not willing to sell to the home user. Their sticks are quite expensive though. http://www.fighterops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6609&highlight=hirevsims And heres why: http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=51549&highlight=hirevsims Its possible CH might make a Hornet HOTAS as they had a vote recently but we'll have to wait and see on that one.:joystick: [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

Kuky Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 I couldn't be bothered to read all of that from Frugalsworld forums... I bet if thiese guys really stole some hardware from TM and sold it as theirs in some ilegal way, TM would be on it and sue them... and by the looks of it they haven't, which makes me this nothing was ripped off here. Money making really brings some nasty things in people to the surface... I just think its a shame they won't sell these to the public any more... and I don't blame them. 159th_Viper Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 If the rumours are anything to go by and the selling price is upwards of US$1800-00 then it would be interesting to note how much of a market the Flight-Sim community would hold for them. When the Cougar was first made TM were supposed to make interchangable Grips for throttle and stick. This was supposed to be a cheap way of doing it but TM didn't so hirevsims had a crack at it and made some really high quality heads for the base. The stuff on Frugals is stupid as they judged it without really contacting them first and made a big drama out of nothing. Of course if highrev were doing something illegal they would be delt with by TM. But it didn't happen as obviously they had already made a deal with TM. Either way you look at it the company judged the whole community over 1 or 2 guys opinions which is quite stupid in itself. I've heard that there is not much left in those sticks from the original Cougar as even the microcontroller has been replaced. BTW Cougars do have a few bugs in the way they were manufactured and in order to make them 100% authentic a home user still has to pay $100s to mod the Cougar properly as well as modding the throttle with a realistic arm. Personally I would have a tough time shelling out close to £1000. Well you look at home cockpit builders both here and in the Falcon 4 community you'll find people invest $1000s on their hobby. An $1800 US Hotas would probably be ideal for a particular aircraft if its not available from the joystick makers out there. eg a hornet Hotas would be popular for Hornet fans doing pit building. These guys often go as far as working MFDs and gauges I wouldn't be surprised if some people made KA50 pits when BS is released or A-10A pits when tank killers is released. A fully working pit is one of the reasons why so many people are building F-16 pits these days. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

Trident Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Its possible CH might make a Hornet HOTAS as they had a vote recently but we'll have to wait and see on that one.:joystick: Yours is certainly an optimist's definition of 'recently'... ;) (Or did they do another one? That would suck, because I missed it, hehe)
SUBS17 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Yeah certainly optimistic but ya never know its about time someone put a new split throttle on the market. Sims like RV, LO, JF/A-18, IL2 FSX all support split throttle and the only one ever released was the suncom F-15 HOTAS. The COUGAR has a connection for a 2nd throttle input on its microcontroller somewhere from what I've heard and that would still require someone making a split throttle handles and linkages etc. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

Well if you don't have any board experience I would recommend unsoldering the wires and soldering them to the points on the new switch... I have changed some of the buttons on my Cougar and I've modded the stick as well as the throttle... But.... I've worked in the aviation industry for quite a while and have a lot of practice.. If you're a nuube, I wouldn't recommend tackling this as my first job.... You're better off taking this to a TV repair guy and see if he can help you... Zuki Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 I don't blame the guy for not wanting to sell to the end user. I saw the situation rapidly deteriorate on Frugal's and as usual it was the same F4/Cougar fanatics that caused Hi-Rev to say "screw it, we ain't selling". Finger pointing doesn't do any good at this point but at the least it can help some of you understand why Hi-Rev has moved the direction they have. On the other side of the coin, I've seen and used some of Hi-Rev's equipment and it looks pretty in the pictures but it's far from being 1) worth the price 2) rugged enough to justify #1. Times are pretty good right now, there are plenty of sticks to choose from although as sim junkies we'd all like to see another option. As I gaze into my magic eight-ball I see new stuff for us on the horizon. Don't ask me though, cuz I just ain't talkin'. I have seen the magic 8 ball as well Rugg...patiently waiting... dum de dum. Dusty Rhodes Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 That's pretty broad ranged Dusty. It was the other flight sim community and particular some of the guys who fancy themselves real fighter pilots that screwed anyone else who wanted a tricked out HOTAS. I'm a member of the flight sim community and I didn't have anything to do with the children that pissed off Hi-Rev. You can visit most of the offenders at Frugal's, as they (incorrectly) assume there's only one brand of joystick and one flight sim. Closed minded retards the bunch of 'em. They know who they are. Anyone can use the search engine over there and find it's the same crew that run off anyone who doesn't drink their brand of grape kool-aid. As usual it is a MINORITY who screw it up for the VAST MAJORITY. Regardless of how many, it happened, and it hurt us, IMHO. Some day it will come about, hopefully. VMFA-Blaze Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Lets see what Joe Kurrs Squadron has as well... They seem to have a good idea as to how to give the community more than one or two options.. I would really like to get my hands on a Russian stye stick.. it would certaimly add to the immersion.... And if they can do it for a Russian stick they might be able to come up with an F-15, A/F-18 stick as well... ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR
