CheckGear Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Why do you need boilers when you have a nuke plant producing tons of steam? Umm... because the Forrestal-class is a conventionally-powered aircraft carrier, maybe?
Nosferatuwhisky 1-1 Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Why do you need boilers when you have a nuke plant producing tons of steam? The Forrestal class were CVs, not CVNs. and a nuclear powerplant is really just a boiler when you get right down to it. Boil water, use steam to do shit. "Chops"

That will teach him to read and type faster next time so that you will be the second one to reply.

Pikey Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I'm taking note of all the people that want to ride up and down on elevators! It keeps coming up in threads! As a pilot, you don't get to race them below decks, that's for the engineers, ok? ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *

CheckGear Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 ah... see... i learned something today. I thought the forestal was nuclear :) CVN-65 Enterprise was the first nuclear powered carrier. Next was CVN-68 Nimitz and every carrier thereafter has been a nuke.
Dino Might Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 The Prize and subsequent CVNs had substantial design differences and purposes, best explained by the following diagram:

mwd2 Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 Could you use CAT 1 and CAT 2 from the USS John C. Stennis at the same time with two Tomcats prepare for launch? I think, the CATs are to close together so that the spread wings from both F-14s will touch each other. will00988 Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 There is enough space between Number 1 and 2 for Tomcats on the Nimitz class: That being said, and what a beautiful picture, I wouldn’t particularly want to be taking off on a cat launch with all of that 10 feet of clearance between myself and my wingman...
Shadoga Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 The cats 1&2 are converging, so simultaneous shots are not possible anyways.

Flamin_Squirrel Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 No it wasn't. Read mdw2's post properly. Tomcats prepare for launch He was asking about getting hooked up, not the actual launch that Shadoga refers to.

Flamin_Squirrel Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Shadoga talks about simultanious launches, mwd2 is talking about preparation. I'm struggling to see why you think those two events are one and the same.
Shadoga Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Easy folks! It doesn't really matter if the question was precise or not and looking for only one detail or a broader picture - since now all aspects of the situation in question have been laid out here by multiple answers for everyone as a future reference. That's a good thing. Poisoning the thread with silly arguments over who's the better pea-counter is not.

CheckGear Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 I can't wait to fly VF-1/2 off Ranger and VF-21/154 off Independence!
