Update: Here is a mission file that has a few custom knee-boards to help with PointCTRL set-up. Just read the mission instructions, because the pages start from the back of the knee-board so you can get to them quickly.

Down the road I will be adding audio and other enhancement to assist in set up.

Thanks to Mariner3302, this was his awesome idea.

Now back to shipping,

Miles

Edit: .miz file was to large I will put it on the website. Here is what it looks like...

Maybe a bit too soon to ask but have you got any further with the integration with the Valve Index yet?

Unfortunately not, I have been focused on the firmware to make set up more intuitive. I will probably do the standard mount for Index, and then do the frunk in the future. When I make the face mount HMS it will be available separately. Don't hesitate to keep reminding me though.

Hi Razorblade,

Thanks for the interest, Thankfully, Firecat is the keeper of the list. He will probably see your post and add you to it, if not just PM him.

Thanks Guys,

Miles

Hey Miles. I posted this a few pages back. But I didn’t see you reply. What’s the best option for the Rift-S currently?

Hey Miles. I’ve kind of lost track of things over the past few pages but did you come to a conclusion about what the best plan was regarding a Rift-S mount? I have a Rift currently but the upgrade to the S seems likely.

Did you figure out a way to use the current HMS in a way that wouldn’t occlude the top camera or do you need to come up with a new HMS design for mounting directly on the front face of the goggles?

Hey Miles. I posted this a few pages back. But I didn’t see you reply.

Hey Deano,

What’s the best option for the Rift-S currently?

Hey Deano,

Right now, I just have the mount that blocks the upper camera. I am still trying to lock down weather or not the upper camera is used for the head-tracker. So far it appears its only used for tracking a touch controller above your head. I have not seen any difference in DCS tracking. I think its reasonable to assume its not needed because most of the the time it would just be looking at a white ceiling with no discernible features to reference. But that is just a hypotheses at this point.

There is a hole in the mount so the camera can see through it when the HMS PCB is snapped out.

Eventually I will make a different PCB for a face mount, its just not a priority right now.

Thanks Deano,

Miles

Maybe mentioned before and I'm definitely dreaming here... But how awesome would it be if ED added something like a virtual pilot hand/arm to DCS, that would follow mouse (Pointctrl) input. Not only would it be cool to see it when operating cockpit switches, but it would also help to see and operate side wall switches (talking F-18 here).

Not really sure how this would work using both arms with only one mouse, but with Pointctrl (using both hands) that issue should not be a problem.

Sorry for this little side step, but I was just so excited about the idea of having this feature :D. Back on-topic ;)

Edit: Maybe the idea isn't as far away as I thought, because I just realized we already have virtual hands for the touch controllers. Still room for improvement though.

The issue with visible hands following the mouse cursor around, much less arms as well is that they block your ability to see the controls you're trying to interact with in the first place.

Have to say that I’m still loving PointCTRL, I just don’t fly VR without and have even noticed I’ve stopped using some of my other input devices (saitek panels) as it’s just so much easier to use my hands in VR.

after a full week of using pointctrl i have to say:

its a complete game changer for me, never touching my mouse or cougar mfds again while in VR, ED should really have a look at MilesD s fantastic invention. Its the first time i get a fully immersive VR experience in DCS. when calibrated accordingly its mindblowing.

all my friends are blown away how well pointctrl works.

Thank you for this absolutely stunning product u are giving the DCS community Miles!!!!
