PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller

Recommended Posts

I didn’t receive the PM. However, I am #88 on the list and ready to place my order as soon as my unit is available. My HMD is an Odyssey Plus.

It’s hard to keep up with this. What is a “release list” and do I need to do anything else to buy one of these at launch? Isn’t that the point of the list?

Great work guys, this looks amazing! Not sure I’m following how the system works, but if needed; please put me on the release list. If the release list is no longer used, then I would like to buy at release regardless. Just to be clear on my intent.

Not sure what this whole PM thing is about. Never got one but whatever, I'm paying attention to the thread, I see I'm listed as a release candidate, so I'm good.

Please let me know if more is required.

Me too, ready to pull the trigger. ;)

Hi

I sent a pm as well. I am #135 and will buy on release.

Saludos

UPDATE.

To all members, the list will be kept simple, in alphabetical order (follow the link below) to help Miles. Request post 687.

My fault completely, I misread into an early post and jumped to the conclusion that Miles wanted two types of information those who want to buy on release and those that prefer to wait until a later date.

I also thought if Miles was releasing in batch quantities a numbered list from (1 to END) may be easier to work with. I agree with Miles in sticking with alphabetical as it benefits everyone when checking.

So again I apologize for any confusion caused. Please disregard any PM you may or may not have received regarding release lists.

Also if you haven't, please read MilesD post 660 also very helpful. link below.

If you are not on the alphabetical list or wish to be added/removed post or PM me.

Thank you for being a warm and understanding community.

Apologies to all Firecat.

+1 Many thanks, and very much appreciated.

Because my attention span is so short, after the second it takes for a hyperlink to process I forget what I was looking for, I like to link to the actual post instead of just the page.

An example:

This: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3862014&postcount=690

instead of: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=218861&page=69 (690 post)

There may be a better way, but I click on the post number in the upper right hand corner to get the post specific URL

Just something helpful for those of us who have brains wired the same as squirrels

Thanks again FireCat,

Miles

That's not on you FireCat, I originally did ask for a list for the first "slow roll" release to people who had the time to test pointCTRL thoroughly. You got me that, and it still stands. I will be PMing some of them in a few days.

Its all good FireCat, and we all appreciate that you picked up the ball and ran with this.

Just a public huge THANK YOU to Firecat for keeping this list up and everyone informed! To the testers, give them a real workout and take copious notes for Miles. That will get this out sooner and be even better than I am sure we all feel it will be.

Miles - as a Force Recon guy, I am required to poke you Greenies but man, this is really cool! Not just the unit but seeing and letting all of us see into how things like this are dreamed up, developed, and brought to the public. I am sure I couldn't have done it!!

@mariner, SF selection would get quite a few Force Recon guys going through. I was surprised that the Marine Corp would conditional release them for selection. If they didn't make it, they would go back to Force Recon, if they got selected, the Marine Corp would release them to join the Army. To be honest, they all seemed to get the SF thing, as opposed to our Ranger Bn guys who were great guys and extremely tactically proficient, but were challenged by the adjustment to "chill". I think it was because you guys were used to working in small groups.

UPDATE: More Production PCBs and the stencil I was waiting for arrived. I can do 10 FCU's at a time now.

Closer...

So looking forward to this. Every single time I have to click the landing gear in the F-18 I think "I wish I had Point Ctl so I could use my left hand and keep my right hand on the stick..."

Easy, get a second mouse next to the throttle (what I do) or move it to your left hand

Miles, interesting! Sounds like an inter-service transfer situation. Never heard of anyone doing it like that but it has been a long time. Definitely the small group mentality helps. Did the norms and Ranger and Pathfinder schools relatively early in my career so never really took much time thinking about it back then. I was a Sniper section leader. We always preferred the SF Medics training over the civilian and PJs. They are good but if you need the best, call the greenie! Personally, I couldn't do what you guys do - way to much local's interaction. We definitely ate some of the same dirt tho.

It was the early 90s before MARSOF, which is when the Marines decided to play nice with US SOCOM. I was in selection with 2 of them, and my roommate in the Q-course was one.

Great work, Miles!

I am SO eager to have one of those devices, since my current setup (Logitech Trackball) is not optimal. What is the expected timeframe to purchasing availability? Is it 1 month, 3 months, or more like 1 year? I would love to know because I am trying to decide wether I should invest 80€ in a koolertron mini keyboard as an internim solution.

I am reluctant to give time frames because I did, and had a few unforeseen issues. I expect the LiPO fire proof bags to be delivered by the end of the week, so I hope to have the first batch ready to go by then.

Now that Los finally has a functioning PointCTRL, he is a huge help with the testing of all the DCS modules and providing detailed feedback for required changes. I started a test run today of the FCU fixtures running a small batch of 10 FCU Push-Button boards. Tomorrow will be the HMS and hopefully the FCU main board.

I will keep the pics of the process coming if thats of interest to the group.

I discovered this thread abt. 10 days ago. After having read it for a minute, I was ready to place an order for the product described.Still not done - I simply got caught by what was happening right under my eyes. A forum assisted product development- WOW what a thing! Maybe a glimpse into the future of very close marketdriven productdev. I had to read every post.

MilesD - You have, out of your own head and out of your own pockets, lead this unique project. You - Sir- have earned my complete respect and I am so glad that you have found us on the forum to be a shiny thing, as you yourself and FireCat are shiny fellows.

FireCat - Please add me to the release list - This is going to be fun! - I am on Rift(maybe updating to the upcoming HP, but foresee no adapting problems).

I fully understand your hesitation to give timeframes, Miles! That is why I asked if it would be more like "a few weeks/months" or more like "a year". I will just keep following this thread and try to busy myself with something else in the remaining time.

Thank you for taking the time to reply!
