colubridae Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I've recently bought the Persian gulf map and been practising ILS landings with A-10C. I've had difficulties with two airports so far Sharjah rwy 303 111.95 Mhz works ok Sharjah rwy 123 108.55 Mhz does not work - appears as no ILS signal same with Al Minhad Al Minhad rwy 270 110.75 Mhz works ok al minhaf rwy 090 110.70 MHz does not work - appears as no ILS signal. am I doing something wrong? please.
Ramsay Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 To ensure the ILS switches direction correctly, have a +7 knot (+3.5 m/s) headwind for the runway you want to use ILS on. Otherwise the 'active' ATC runway can be out of step with ILS and marker beacon direction for moderate headwinds. i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 10 Pro x64, 1920X1080

Otherwise the 'active' ATC runway can be out of step with ILS and marker beacon direction for moderate headwinds. tried and worked. ahhhh the penny has dropped. if i'm approaching an airport with zero wind I must land on the runway assigned by ATC. this I was not doing. I assumed that both ILS signals were available on my request for landing. I set up landing practice at airports for both directions where ILS was available for both directions.I just assumed I could just dial in the frequency and hey presto. Thanks for your quick help. :)
Wookie Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Sorry to unearth an old'ish thread. I have noticed the same problem regarding the ILS for Rwy 9 at Al Minhad. In my case though, ATC pointed me towards the rwy 9 because I'd set up easterly wind. I'm not sure if it was above the required windspeed threshold, however, I don't buy this work-around because even with less wind, if ATC assigns a rwy to you and weather conditions makes it necessary to fly an ILS approach, the ILS signal needs to be turned on. Is this some kind of coding problem? Is this something I can hope is getting looked into since PG is a final released product?
draconus Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 I'm not sure if it was above the required windspeed threshold, however, I don't buy this work-around because even with less wind, if ATC assigns a rwy to you and weather conditions makes it necessary to fly an ILS approach, the ILS signal needs to be turned on. I don't get what is your problem. Currently DCS ATC tells you what RWY is active and only that one is getting proper lights, NDBs and ILS. Do you suggest that IRL ILS signal always transmit both ways? Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Rift S T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Wookie Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 (edited) No, I ofc don't suggest that. Let me clarify what I meant. Situation: Approach Al Minhad Wind from 85° at 4 m/s Night time Visibility low ATC assigns rwy 09 to me for landing The Problem: The ILS signal is still not turned on or I'm not able to receive it. But I don't get what I could do wrong. I did alot of ILS approaches already. Right now, I fail to see the error on my side. Did this clarify things? Edited February 28, 2020 by Wookie 1
draconus Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Wookie, what aircraft have you tried it with? I'll check on my side. Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Rift S T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Ramsay Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 (edited) Did this clarify things? Yes. The A-10C's ILS (110.700 MHz) seemed to work ok for RWY 09 with a 8 kts headwind towards 265°T. TACAN (99X) was a little strange as it gave distance but no course deviation until within 5-6 Nm of the runway threshold. Wookie Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Wookie, what aircraft have you tried it with? I'll check on my side. In the A-10C. Sorry, forgot to mention that.
Wookie Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Yes. The A-10C's ILS (110.700 MHz) seemed to work ok for RWY 09 with a 8 kts headwind towards 265°T. Yeah, it seems as if there is a wind threshold speed above which the ILS signal is turned on and below is not working, although it should work because ILS has nothing to do with the wind situation at the aifield. 1

There's a known bug in the 2.5.x Caucasus map where certain ATC and ILS directions desync for headwinds of 1-6 knots (0.5-3.2 m/s). I haven't tested the PG's airfields and winds but it's something to be aware of when creating missions. i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 10 Pro x64, 1920X1080
pimp Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 In the Viper, I cannot input ILS frequency 111.20 for RWY 13L at Al Dhafra AB. The DED just blinks as if there's an error with the frequency input. pimp Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 111.2 MHz is a VOR / VDB frequency. Nealius Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 Is Minhad 09 ILS still bugged? In my missions with winds 050 7kts the ILS for 09 does not work. 1
