From what I understand the latest update didn't really fix anything major with the 65F. Just mentioned the hardware issue with us warthoggers. My question is I thought there was going to be fixes to the locking and slew rates? What happened to those? Seems like 65F locks up as bad as the ones with the optical seekers (3-5 miles until locked)

Also, I've used the TMS up as the TDC down for slewing, but noticed that when you let go of the TDC down, the seeker will slew up uncommanded from where you are trying to lock the target. You end up constantly adjusting the thing, especially when there is lots of static objects (trees, light poles, etc) near the target.

Edit forgot ship mode was implemented but not related to my problem.

I find the slew less sensitive so its easier to control.

I've been able to lock target as far away as 14-15 miles.

I did notice that when you switch to Black hot the center DDI map changes from bright to dark; perhaps a bug?

That is not a black hot or white hot button.

From what I understand it is changing what the IR seeker is looking for. White to lock brighter colored targets and Black for darker colored targets.

Someone chime in if i am wrong on this. but i do know for a fact that that button is not switching from black hot to white hot etc.

You are correct it is for switching the symbiology as far as I understand. I wasn't sure what its called

This is my understanding as well, changes whether seeker attempts to lock on dark or light contrast. I could swear I heard wags confirm in a vid as well. Tested under previous beta and can't guarantee, wasn't exactly scientific in my methodology

just a dude who probably doesn't know what he's talking about

Right, but didn’t he also mention fixing the locking parameters including locking distance as well as slew rates?

Here’s what I am talking about:

I noticed the inversion as well, but I didn’t use that. I kept it white and attempted to lock up an SA8. Every time I’d get close to locking up on him, he would launch at me. Eventually my attempts were futile.

I use deltasim's TMW slew upgrade with 80% deadzones (x and y) and boat switch toggle as TDC depress. Slewing is pretty spot on and comparable to you get with keyboard slew.

I'd say they fixed slew, works fine now.

Okay, so the slew rates are fixed, then why can’t I lock a target up at a reasonable distance? A10 is very simple and straightforward. F18 is like forcing a stick of butter through a keyhole.

I found the biggest problem the offset of the diamond with the VV

You need to be keenly aware you fly the diamond and not the VV, but you do this with the vv of course

plus the FA-18C has horrible rudder at speed, compared to A10C I think I remember, so keeping an eye on the VV, AND the diamond AND the MDI is rather cross eye inducing, but it works as far as I can see

I have the slew mod installed and haven't seen a difference in the latest update. It is still very difficult to slew. You need a really large deadzone because the slew rate is fixed. If you are at 100% or 2% of the sensor range it will slew at the same rate

Accurate slewing seems to be a pain because of this. If I barely move the sensor it will still overshoot the target I'm aiming for

Posted

Is the fixed slew rate realistic? I can’t rmemeber if they work the same in the A-10 as I basically never use the mav seeker and just slew to TGP.

I noticed the Mav can be fired from alittle further out. The missile will take a higher arc than before where you would fire the Mav and it would start descending almost immediately.

Idk, but I find the slew rate better than before...the lock on targets is more forgiving and quicker I think...I have a track if you're interested....here's a quick video:

Those are stationary targets in the video and perfectly show how ease slewing is now.

When targeting a moving column (on the road in a canyon) I fly the diamond on top of the target and pickle the depress.

It is now easier to lock a (moving) target at a distance then from close up when at close the correction distance is just bigger for slew when first lock fails.

The difference with the A10C it seems is the high speed of the FA-18, so at the top @ 10000 of my dive at the target column I already full extend the speedbrake and try to be close to only 250kts for a steep dive will accelerate the FA-18 no matter what.

And BTW the axis profiles for the XY slews is set to the bare minimums (like "2" for Y).

Yes, and if you notice, to compensate for speed compared to the A10, I begin my roll and dive at around 250-270kts and put the ATC on. This helps keep the Hornet from building speed into the dive, giving you more time to make the lock...and I'm not using an easy little rubber thumbstick like on the WH...I have a large rocker disc that is harder to control with your thumb than those thumb joysticks

Which throttle are you using?

Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant

Pardon my ignorance but I do not think there is a slew control on that unit.. What are you using to slew the mav?

That and it’s not the TMWH which is what I’m using.

I never said there was...what I did say was that the rocker disc is hard to use compared to the thumb joysticks that are on the WartHog...the rocker disc is a little over 1/2 inch in diameter and is on my Razor Tartaurus Gamepad and not on my throttle...that's right, I don't even have the luxury of full HOTAS...I use my throttle for speed, comms, jettison functions, and refueling probe...my Razor mini pad for flaps, Weapons/Navigation modes, landing gear, hook, launching bar, chaff & flares, and speed brake and TrackIR centering on the Razor's keys and the rocker disc on the side for Attack Radar cursor slewing as well as MAVF/HUD slewing, then my mouse for selecting items I have not yet assigned to Razor Keys (8 levels of 15 key pages), and finally a CH Fighterstick for stick and Pro pedals..does that help you? :joystick:

Is that rocker disc an axis or buttons. And if axis are you using any curves or changed saturation? I have a TWCS and can't get it to slew as precisely as your video
