I noticed in some missions you start on the ramp or on the deck and these spoilers are up:

Nothing I do (cycle DLC, flaps, thumb the DLC wheel) seems to make them go down. As time and frustration increase, they eventually do go down but I don't know what I did to do so, or why they are up to begin with. The only way I was able to get them to go down is by sweeping the wings back, but that's not good for takeoffs.

Thoughts?

they will go down once you restart the mission, I have had this happen several times.

Check your speedbrake switch, left horizontal console (I think?), I believe it defaults to a position which deploys the spoilers when in idle throttle.

Check it for what? I have the airbrakes retracted.

Check the anti skid / spoiler brake switch. When at idle with WoW, that switch will cause the spoilers to deploy, when you power up they retract. Putting the switch into the off position, will retract them at idle.

I think this is the case. I was practicing the the case 1 instant action today, and after a successful trap, I went to swing the wings back for taxi, nope - spoilers are up. Looked down at that switch mentioned (anti-skid/spoilers/both) and it was on "both" - default set at mission start in the air. So that should be selected "off" for carrier ops. Yes, it activates definitely with weight-on-wheels.

That's where the switch is set for takeoff on land in case of an abort. You want ANTISKID SP BRAKE.

Additionally, the spoilers were armed just before takeoff to avoid the outboard spoiler module from overheating. Fun, eh?

So you mean that from an airfield we should start with Anti-Skid Spoilers up?

If I'm understanding correctly, the switch should be down (spoilers armed) but the spoilers should not actually be up? Because they're up every time I start. I also noticed that when I start the airplane seems to drop from a spawn point in the air instead of spawning on the ground...I wonder if that "air" start trips the spoilers?

As long as you have weight on the gear, spoilers ar up. When you got airborne, spoilers goes down cause there is no weight on the gear.

The interlocks are switch armed, weight on wheels and both throttles at idle.

Pushing the power up will retract the spoilers.

Hmm... when i land on an airfield with anti-skid in down position the spoilers seems to be up when i give a little bit power to taxi. Must recheck that.

So finally what is the correct setting for TO and LDG on land ? Is it both ? Meaning you spoilers stay out during taxi out as long as power is in idle ?

On the boat the switch is set to off meaning they stay retracted. Is that correct ?

Why is no one reading the manual?? It's all in there: http://www.heatblur.se/F-14Manual/general.html#antiskid

Anti-Skid should be off for taxing, because it causes problems with low speed driving. It should be turned to both for take off and landing on land bases, so it assists with braking if needed. The spoilers come up if throttle is in idle and the switch is set to both or spoilers.

Good freaking question!

Anti-skid is for stopping, not taxiing. The sensors can signal a release below 10 knots, meaning you can end up going off of the side of the boat. Great for maximum stopping power on the landing rollout however.
