As stated already:

In general, throwing VR headset after headset into the market is not the solution.

We are already at a nice state with Odyssey+ and Pimax and of course they will get better over time just like TVs. But they rush it more than the hardware is able to keep up. Bascially every new HMD is grinding the edge of top notch hardware.

The "best" VR headsets out there can't play top notch graphics with top notch performance. Why do we need more FOV, more PD more everything AT THE MOMENT?

Why are games still running on single core speed? Imagine you could AND SHOULD have 2x to 3x the power which is currently used in any game...

Why are all games still on DirectX if everybody says that Vulkan is the way to go. Instead, all you hear is "you need DirectX12 for raytracing, believe us!" Really? Do I?

If developers would make use of multiple cores a regular, we could already be there and wouldn't have to worry if our PC specs can match the HMDs requirements.

So, is correct to say that in the next 2 months we all should stay tuned on news from these VR devices? Any other to put in list?

- Oculus Rift S

- HTC Vive

- HP Reverb

- Samsung Odyssey

- Pimax 5K

Valve Index (rather than HTC Vive).

That is the one I have my eyes on.

The neckbreaker was definitely when they took away the option to turn off "Deferred Shading". Having it ON per hardcoding was a huuuuge performance hit in VR and nobody was happy about it.

When DCS 2.5 came out with still the option deferred shading on or off, of course I had better max fps with D.S. off (90 fps when above certain altitude, when D.S. on don't go over 45 fps), but at the same time, with D.S. on, I had way better min fps (never below 45fps, low above city, while D.S. off was dropping in the 20-25 fps !! comparison pictures stored in forum).

Considering this I personnaly don't regret the D.S. off option - I prefer with VR a good stable 45 fps with ASW in "all" circumstances (Kami strike with full baskets of rockets, diving some 100s feet above target won't keep 45 fps…), than a sometimes 90 fps, and much lower than 45 fps above cities or battlefield. Not talking about how much better looking DCS is with deferred shading.

Comparing sims, I have no issue with that, but are you sure you can compare DCS with something else ? (fanboy mode ON)

ok i’ll bite. how do you propose they move to multiple cores?

what work can be done on other cores that does not introduce locking and stutter?

Hi,

I'm Running a Noctura NH-U14S Fan only. I considered doing some CPU overclocking down the track but I haven't seen the justification as yet, perhaps that will change when the HMD is upgraded but I find simplicity appealing. It's a monster fan and takes up a lot of space but seems to be doing the job well.

Thank you !

Vulkan is comming, to many games, but it's not easy, and It's a lot of work !!!!

The latest news about it con DCS was this some days ago:

"The Last update on Vulkan is that the Base Engine was Complete, and work had started on Converting all of the Shaders and textures to the new API"

Any improvements that make better use of multi core CPUs will be great for VR, but they will also be really good for the regular game in 2D. There is a lot of untapped potential still to reveal in current hardware.

Thank you for these informations and suggestions. I really appreciate your support that is at the highest level how DCS World is among simulators. So the decision is taken for me.. I don’t have a VR now, but I’ll have one in the next weeks.

Considering we are in the first days of april I’ll stay tuned and I’ll check the informations you all are writing. When we will arrive in the middle of may I’ll buy my VR keeping in my mind to create a balanced system between my PC and my VR goggles.

Done this I’ll appreciate more and more the masterpiece created by ED and other partners.

I hope we will continue to update the news of VR world.
