The links are to 2 separate types of vehicles (count the wheels)

one may be a Tor on wheels, the other appears to be a Tunguska (?) on wheels but with 12 launchers instead of 8

- You can just see the gattling guns inboard from the launchers. Search radar at cab end, tracking radar facing camera

Cheers.

The second is the Pantsyr (Armor), it's much like an upgraded Tunguska-M1 with digital interfaces, new missiles, radars and optics. No gattling guns yet on that thing ;) The first one is a Tor on a wheeled chassis.

The Pantsir is a low-to-medium level SAM that can be networked and is designed to fill the gaps of a main air defense system. There was a complete commercial folder of it recently in AirForces Monthly.

A kind of Tor+

All Soviet made sams can be networked, everything 'modern', ie eighties and later is networked, nothing special for Russian/Soviet made SAMs. In fact most systems are designed to only work in groups, systems like the Tor, Tunguska, Strela-10-M3, Buk-M1, and more expensive ones are all capable of wireless networking, and wired too. Heck, even the Strela is networked (in the non-terrorist version :P), with a small command screen showing the relative target positions, all with IFF, so the operator knows where to look. A similar system is in the Strela-10 family of vehicles.

Plus - what's this one ? Minimal air defence for the mechanised infantry ?

That didn't look like an air defence for me. It's more like a twin 20mm cannons with some AT missiles.

Yes, I wonder: AT missiles or kinda Igla's? It is certainly not air defense, but maybe some Igla's for protection against air/helo's?

Why kinda? They look like Iglas and are certainly too thin for AT missiles.

I find the sensor in the small turret much more interesting. It looks like the commander can search for targets independently? Anyway, I wouldn't sign out the air defense role because the main turret and cannons look to be mounted at such an angle that they are most probably meant for use against airborne targets. Even the protective screen on the turret looks like hiding the operator window normally found on air defense vehicles (e.g. Avenger, Strela-10, etc.). But we'd need some more photos, especially from its side to get a better look on the turret inclination.

Except that they're Iglas & the guns are mounted in a separate housing above the normal turret hight to allow them increased ellevation, & an IRST mounted on gymbals to allow it to point up.

Not a regular SAM battery, but I'd say definately some sort of 'Minimal air defence for the mechanised infantry'. It's probably take care of either choppers or an A-10 that either was down to guns or didn't see it till inside Igla range.

Think of it as an APC version of an Avenger, with a bigger gun.

Where did I get the pics ?

It is sure for air defence, look at the fairing beneath the muzzle of the launcher. The Strela has that to in MANPAD version

It is the MT-LBM 6M1B5, a modernized MT-LB multipurpose tracked vehicle.

There are two proposed upgrades to the MT-LB chassis, the MT-LB 6MA and MB-LB 6MB, where the -6MA uses the BTR-80 turret and the -6MB uses a new, configurable turrent of the BTR-80A. The basic -6MB upgrade is in service in Russia and has been used in Chenchya.

Another upgrade option with this turret is the -6M1B3, seen here, with twin Gh-23 23mm guns.

Pictured in this thread is the third -6MB upgrade option, the -6M1B5, with twin 2A72 30mm guns.

AFAIK, the Iglas can be mounted on any of the -6MB upgrades. I don't know the nature of the electro-optical sight mounted upfront on the -6M1B5 vehicle.

The turret is designed to be versatile and I think the vehicle's mission, whether AD, fire support or APC, can be tailored according to a unit's needs.
