A question related to the actual RL jdam implementation, to hit the target accurately the pilot always has to inserts speed, heading, angle?

No. They are optional. And if they are entered and the weapon determines in can’t hit the target (due to being released outside of the LAR) it’ll sacrifice speed first, then heading, and lastly angle in order to impact the coordinates.

Sorry Chalky but I don't understand the need to convert the coordinates. In the DCS mission editor (caucasus map), pointing the mouse at the waypoint where the target is located, the coordinates are obtained in the format x ° y 'z "N ecc... Moreover, on the pad I cannot insert MGRS coordinates and I don't understand how we can see the MGRS format on the map (I only see the format x ° y 'z "N ecc...). Last night, after the last update, I tried to perform a simple bombardment mission with JDAM (GBU 31). I only tried the TOO mode (waypoint 1 right on the target). After running all the settings in flight, I discovered that the circle no longer appears around the target waypoint and, when the release timer reaches zero and the bomb is dropped, it does not hit the target (in fact it misses a lot). I believe there is still work to be done for the JDAM.

Try this...

I use DDMM.MMM (in ME map hit LAlt-Y once) as it's easier to convert to DDMMSS.SS by just doing 0.MMM x 60 = SS.SS.

Try releasing your JDAMs at 18000ft+ to get better results.

Thanks GrEaSeLiTeNiN !!! Finally, everything is clear to me. Now I try to run a test mission to understand the procedure and we hope that in a future update more precise coordinates will be provided on the maps to skip the conversion phase (quite annoying).

I'm having the same problem the only way I can get PP2/3/4 to release is to activate each station on the return page, two bombs will strike the same target and one completely miss everything.

Found my mistake and JDAMS are working prefect.

Well here is a trk file. This is after I have done a complete reinstall of OB after having even more problems. Before the update I could drop four bombs with no problem. Clean install did not help.

You need to allow the JDAMs to properly align before programming them.

I created a mission to test the JDAMs and finally managed to destroy all targets!! The secret is all in the right coordinates to use to program the bombs. And these coordinates are not in the format that is read on the simulator maps (sigh!)

Thank you all for sharing their knowledge !!

Have you tried pushing the drop bomb button? We really need much more than what you are giving us, many others are dropping JDAMs just fine.

NineLine have you watched my trk. PP1 releases and hit's near target, but the trk does not go that far. I have watched it in other test. Also if you watch close the L DDI you will see that I push pp2/3/4 more than once, and I even hold each for a while. Also as in my post I had no problem releasing all four and hitting tgt's before update.

Foxfire I was having the same problem as you only one JDAM being released. Make sure you go back to the RETURN page and unselect the last JDAM you programed, none of them should be selected or highlighted when you finish, if you have one selected you will only release one JDAM, give it a try. The JDAMS do work, I'm now hitting 4 out of 4 at a airport.

This may sound like a stupid question, but how do you know when your JDAMs are aligned - is it the message on the DDI that says 'good'?

Also one member talked about using a MGRS conversion via a website to get decimal places on the LAT/LONG. Surely it's easier to set this via map options in the first place?

Yes good = good which should be around the 7:30 mark. For coords I usually write them down from mission editor and plug in on the ramp in lat/long. I use jtac mod to get 9line in lat/long as well.

Converting from UTM via said website will give you a more accurate set of numbers for jdams. Check your smartphone app store there is a great coords converter app in there at least for android.

In a future update the map will have DDMMSS.SS coords which u can enter straight into UFC without need for conversion.

My understanding is that PP1/2/3/4 are just profiles for respective targets and any JDAM station will do. You just need to select the right PP for the intended target. In other words the PPs do not get locked into a specific JDAM station.

Thats exactly what I think. But Wags stated in his videos that the PPs are indeed loaded into a specific jdam. So I dont know.

What is certain, is that it doesnt work in DCS like Wags said.

But I'd like to know how it is supposed to work.

If they were loaded into memory, you would be able to drop a ripple sequence and have each bomb independently target it’s own assigned DMPI, which is the way it should function. The bombs do not remember what profile was loaded to them in the sim. Haven’t flown in a while, but from the sounds of it, sounds like it works as it previously did. There is some functionality missing, either by intent, or not fully developed.

The functionality you're talking about is Mission Computer (MC) software dependent. I have no idea which software set they are basing the MC design on for DCS. Regardless, the pilot should be able to load separate coordinates into each PP MSN, assign a PP MSN to each JDAM, and release all the JDAM with 1 pickle depression. You shouldn't have to cycle PP MSNs and have multiple pickle depressions like WAGs shows in his video.

I have asked and it is correct as is, the only ripple function for JDAMs is for multiple bombs on the same target, otherwise, you must switch programs as stated. This is how we have modelled it based on the available information we have.

Hey guys,

I’ve converted the coordinates correctly to the DDmmss.ss format but have noticed that the impacts are still not as accurate as say using a targeting pod. Is this intended?

My targets are ground vehicles. Some either directly impact or in proximity. But it seems like killing armor vehicles has a very low probability of kill with how loose the targeting is. I’m using GBU31s.

To convert, I take the .mmm x 60 = ss.ss

Isn’t that correct?

Not sure if my expectations are correct with these weapons or not?
