DCS World Dedicated Server

I have 2 instances of DCS on my server rig, 1 is the actual game, and the other is the dedicated server. I only use the game client on this rig to edit server missions, I don't fly on it.  In order to get multiplayer server missions to run on a given terrain, the terrain has to be on the mods/terrains folder of the server install, resulting in the terrains being installed twice, once in the server install, and once in the client install (takes up a HUGE amount of un-necessary space).

Is there any way to get the server to look into the main game install mods/terrains folder? I tried putting shortcuts into the dserver mods/terrains folder for each terrain I own, but that did not work, just got a blank screen and a server error.

Hey Darkdiz!

To be honest I dont know if this should work.
But I am just curious: Did you use mklink.exe to make directory joints? Like ...

mklink /j <NAME> <DIRECTORY>

Actually got it to work, was quite easy.

I downloaded the GUI version, checked with a couple of my IT nerd pals, and it ended up being literally a 30-sec process.

This is the guide I used, the link to the GUI version is in there.

Apparently (though NOT evident) is that you use the straight symbolic link, NOT junction. Works like a charm, I just have to see if an update will screw it up.

After I moved my saved games folder to a new drive and installed my dedicated server to the same drive. 

I can't get my GUI to work, it connects to the server, but I can't select mission or move around, it just a blank page.

Strange, after today's update, the server won't start up, and repairing it fails!

please check your antivirus isnt creating a problem. 

try a pc restart and retry the update.

After the update, my DCS Servers  will not start either.   The update seems have caused DCS to loose some files.  I am getting  the following errors when I try to start.  Wants me to reinstall the server.

I don't have antivirus software and have already tried rebooting and retesting the repair, but it didn't work.

 

I'm also thinking about Windows Defender. I'll look into where to add exceptions!

Yeah, to be completly honest, rather then disable a defender or any other antivirus software, I would like to see a fix with a properly signed .dll and .exe files, so we'll not have false positive, or at least a report of scanned files from an independent SH.

Same issue for me, after excluding DCS Server folder from windows defender everything works. 

I don't like to exclude any folder from Virus Scan, please fix

Excluding the DCS directory from Windows Defender solved the problem, but still we shouldn't have to do this with a major game like DCS.

I'm seeing the same issue, and I am not comfortable excluding these file from Windows Defender and risk a trojan. Please fix the update for the dedicated server.

Any update on this @BIGNEWY ?
It's not a minor issue, and you can't really count on all the server admins to expose themselv to threat just to be able to host your software, expecially now that you have only one release, and it's the "stable", such mistakes should be fixed with priority.

it is false positives, some antivirus don't like the protection being used on some files. I've informed the team, but there is not a lot we can do. 

Excluding DCS from the scans and running a repair is the quickest way to resolve the issue, but of course that is a personal choice to make regarding security. 

Submitting the excluded files to your antivirus provider is another option and hope they will exclude them in their next updates, but they are not always responsive to requests and submissions.

To submit file on Defender Portal you must use a company account or be invited, no personal account are allowed afaik to do that.
How it's supposed to be a final user responsabilities?


We don't even know the contents of these files, so how can we explain to another provider what they should do? (I mean antivirus provider)

I tried to search but got no hits for why Germany Cold War terrain does not install on my standalone DCS server. I tried the to run this line to manually install the terrain but it did not work.
