fitness88 Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Sometimes I can't get the plane to trim with weapons no matter how much trimming I do. Also, is it normal to have to trim each time a weapon is released? I try and balance my loadout but still it seems to be a constant battle. Thank you.
donkeyrider Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Trimming every time a weapon is released is normal as jet is "out of balance".
fitness88 Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 Trimming every time a weapon is released is normal as jet is "out of balance". When using AP, should baro hold and or attitude hold keep the plane wings level in this scenario?
KittyVCAW-1 Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 it will hold you at whatever orientation you are at when you engage AP. So if you are straight and level on initial operation then yes. Nobody likes me because I'm unsafe.

I thought as much and have had some success with it keeping the plane level when doing the targeting inputs but sometimes not...so I was wondering. Thanks.
Pooter03 Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 When using AP, should baro hold and or attitude hold keep the plane wings level in this scenario? If you set the heading on the HSI and choose HSEL, it'll keep you steady and not in a turn.
Oceandar Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 it will hold you at whatever orientation you are at when you engage AP. So if you are straight and level on initial operation then yes.AFAIK no. Attitude hold will not keep you steady level after dropping bomb from one of the wing station. You'd still need to trim with the exception probably as said above using heading select AP but admittedly I have not tried that. Mastering others is strength. XtraChrisP Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 What trim are you using? Are you just using roll trim to cancel out the weight imbalance? Or are you adding in some rudder trim to compensate for yaw moments caused by asymmetric drag? Don't know if the rudder trim matters but conceptually it should, right? I'll test it tonight...

falcon_120 Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 (edited) Also, is it possible to modify trim sensitivity? Right now is so imperceptible that for each weapon i drop i need to hold the trimmer hat for almost 3/4 seconds or even more until i get the aircraft trimmed again, it seems hugely different from something like the A10 trimmer or any other aircraft (F14, mig29, F15, av8), where some small presses of the trimmer get the job done. CBStu Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 I don't know how realistic this is but I always drop bombs in pairs. And it seems to alternate between sides so the weight stays balanced.

ATTH should keep the wings level (heading hold) if the roll angle is <5° when engaging this mode. i7-7700K 4.2GHz, 16GB, GTX 1070
sthompson Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 ATTH should keep the wings level (heading hold) if the roll angle is <5° when engaging this mode. Not according to NATOPS manual, which specifies that behavior for CSS autopilot mode, but not for ATTH. ATTH is attitude hold and should hold any attitude (within certain limits), not heading. But even with out CSS, the AP in its basic mode also reduces the bank angle to 0deg if it is less than 5deg. Edited August 7, 2019 by bbrz i7-7700K 4.2GHz, 16GB, GTX 1070

Um, that is CSS mode! CSS is the mode you are in when the AP is engaged but none of the other modes are selected on the UFC. I'm Softball on Multiplayer. donkeyrider Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 A few additional thoughts: * I've never come close to flying a hornet but I've flown a few GA aircraft. Constantly trimming on those planes. Hornet is a little easier since it will auto trim for pitch. * Trimming does take several seconds of holding the switch to get close to being balanced. * Heading hold mode will keep the wings straight and level both before and after weapons release. Hope this helps. Remember, you need to fly this thing.

When you engage the AP it's in the basic (heading hold) mode. CSS isn't a mode, it's a function which is an important difference.
