F-16, which side for Multiplayer Server?

For which side will the F-16 go on the public servers when it releases?

I hope it goes to the opposite of the F-18, otherwise 90% of the people will go to one side.

Of course it will be blue side. Blue is blue, red is red. JF-17 will probably be Red though.

Thats up to the individual host and not something that is set in stone by default. So any gerneral answer is completely useless.

For the "muh realism" argument here, since the JF-17 got mentioned as a red plane, keep in mind that the F-16 is operated by the same country that operates the JF-17. So there is that for "has to be red, has to be blue"

The F-16 is being flown by a lot of countries like Venezuela, Egypt, Pakistan, Morocco, UAE, Turkey and others, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a somewhat legit way to put them on red side.

MP servers that I usually fly on use this scheme over the PG (simplified):

 

RED: M2000, SU27 family, Mig29 family, Mig21, F14B (Iran) and M2000, SU25T, SU25, Mi8

Blue: F15, F18, F5, AV8, UH1, A10C

 

Common: KA50

 

Under this scheme I guess the F16 will probably go to the Blue side.

 

However, and as already mentioned, I can think of many fictional scenarios where the F16 is played on red or even on both sides, so it is totally up to the mission creator to depict a somewhat realistic scenario.

Yeah it really depends. The viper is flown by a huge number of nations, you could even make arguments for using it on both sides. It also depends on maps or using it to balance out scenarios.

 

For the PG servers, the UAE and Oman are actual operators, so "realistically" they should have it. (Also the M2k for the UAE, not sure what the logic was to assign it to Iran on several of the servers).

 

The JF17 is considered "red" since its co-developed with china and uses chinese weaponry. Of course its not actually used by China as its a cheap export fighter, and I don't think we have a map where it should "realistically" be used. The main argument to give it to Iran are based on play balance (no proper iranian multirole fighters in game). And the fact that Iran "in theory" could buy them (even though they have made no such overtures).

 

I also think as the DCS plane set grows, we might see some better aircraft match-ups rather than divide up the whole plane set as best we can between two sides that is the usual MP server custom these days.

When I play a multiplayer PVP server I look for balance between both sides. I don't care about realism because I know its impossible in DCS with the amount of aircrafts available.

Of course if we had more "red" aircrafts I would like a "more" realistic approach, but this will never going to happen since a lot of planes are classified.

 

Speaking of JF-17, I need to see the flight model but I'm sure I'll buy it.

I'd probably go two routes for this:

 

Scenario one:

F-14, Mig, Su27/33, Ja , Mirage, Viggen, Su25

F-18, F-15, F-16, A-10

 

Scenario two 'Airforce vs. Navy'

F-14, F-18, Mig, Su27/33, Ja, Viggen, Su25,

F-15, F-16, Mirage, A-10

There really isn't any public server that tries to run historical, or even historically inspired scenarios. To be fair, it is almost impossible, especially for the 4th gen era where F-16C belongs. Thus, for the average PvP server balance has to become a consideration, and it really isn't all that strange if they decide to put F-16 to their "red" sides to oppose Hornet, Eagle, and such.

 

This isn't necessarily all that implausible from a realism point of view either. F-16 is so ubiquitious, there are many plausible scenarios of even F-16 vs F-16 encounters. Turkish and Greek aircraft do get entangled with each other over Aegean every now and then for example. Israel and Egypt both operates/operated F-16s too. These are just a couple examples.

 

Finally, the JF-17 looks like it is also fairly close, and when it comes it should fix some of the "what does the red side get" problem. Even though it really isn't all that red :P. Sure, it is a Chinese aircraft, but only to a degree. China doesn't use it, and the main operator Pakistan use it together with... yeah, the F-16 :P, and JF-17's cockpit and systems do have a fair bit of West in them as far as I know.

 

As long as we don't have more red modules, PvP servers without an intention of depicting a historical operation can't be picky about what planes they give to opposing sides.
