Yes - naval base is located here

Thats the port of Severodinsk sniffer - its not a naval base, but the location of a major shipyard where the majority of Russian(Soviet) submarines were constructed and repaired.

As you can see it is also the place where the Admiral Gorshkov is being re-configured for the Indian navy and where the Admiral Nakhimov(3rd Kirov class) nuclear powered cruiser is moored for its long awaited major overhaul.

Actual naval bases are scattered around the Kola peninsula further to the west - the surface fleet at Severomorsk , while there are submarine bases e.g. here (Typhoon and Oscar class) and here (Akula class).

My first reaction was "Oooh! Look! It's the rare Russian Ant-eater having a snack!". But yep, very nice landing. Somehow I don't think the aircraft sustained much damage from that landing, either. I mean, it IS an Su-25T, after all.

Clustermunitions is just another way of saying that you don't like someone.

I used to like people, then people ruined that for me.

Yes The TAP A310 in Portugal ... pretty Piss poor demo of airmanship from some so called professionals...these guys unknowingly were mm from digging a wing tip in. ....I bet they they shat themselves in the bar when they saw this video.

I don't know, IvanK. Considering it's an airshow demonstration, it was probably trained and retrained in simulators before taking it to the sky.

I know fighter pilots deserve it more, but sometimes it's nice to see the "flying bath tubs" doing it low too :D

No simulator provides the fidelity to roll a wingtip that close to the ground to say you can practice and then do it proficiently... knowing the industry well (I fly the biggest French bathtub there is :) I doubt very much if that sequence was practised in the Sim.

I agree its nice to see Flying bath tubs perform but silly stuff like that is asking for trouble. Even at the Big Airshows you dont see the company test pilots do things as daft as that !

There is other footage of this "display" showing some high speed level passes as well.

IIRC this was the last flight of the pilot before he retired. Nevertheless he got some kind of punishment for violating safety rules. I think it was in Portugal, maybe Pilotasso knows more.

It was that A310's last flight. Everybody thought the guy had lost his marbles by doing that manuever but he and TAP came about excusing themselves and presenting forward circunstancial evidence that it was planned that way.

Nobody knows for sure.

By the way the wing was not mm form the ground, try like more 20m because the terrain sinks making the illusion the plane was going to crash.

I asked Lockheed Martin to post these pics of the Sr-71 on their Flickr account, check them out

Go to their flickr account for the original high-resolution

There's also several other photos of Lockheed's birds in hi-res.

Are all SR-71's retired? I'm sure the design could be improved on a lot more...

Yes I believe all the Sr-71s are retired. The USAF officially retired them back in 1998, and NASA was the last to own theirs and they retired a year later.

Shame...it was a beautiful bird. That's why I bought a diecast model of it =)
