RIPTIDE Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Indonesia to buy more flankers. http://www.key.aero/view_news.asp?ID=2519&thisSection=military According to the article it seems the fleet already purchased is impaired in its operation capabilities. Impaired you say? They didn't buy any weapons for the aircraft. they didn't think about communications equipment compatibility and they need to understand that jets need more than palm oil to be paid :) That said, I think Indonesia's problems are less than they were. They also bought diferent versions of the flanker intead of buying a single model with bigger numbers. How do you spect them to integrate togueder if all of them have different equipment.

nscode Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 MiG-31 goldmine: 480p cockpit footage, mach 2.4, plenty of instruments showing, including the map, and what I think is a mid-air engine relight Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
Pilotasso Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Interesting, was that mach 2.6 reding on the dash? .
mvsgas Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 (edited) I wonder if the engine flame out or what happened? I wish I could see EGT or fuel flow Edited September 23, 2010 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. RIPTIDE Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I wonder if the engine flame out or what happened? I wish I could see EGT or fuel flow Its the training version I guess with the periscope view from the back seat at the end. So I reckon its a planned relight. And I think I saw speed just short of M 2.5 a few mins before that. Relight was at M 0.8 I think. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

mikoyan Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Venezuelans are saying that they operated their su-30mk2 at a hight of 65 thousand feet and 72. I wonder if they were clean and low in fuel to operate at that altitude; they said operated; it is not clear if this was a zoom climb.
mikoyan Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 What is the big black panel in the front for? That map reminds me of the tornado IDS map, have this birds been upgraded? What is the advantage of using a mig-31 instead of the su-30 and what is the standard mission profile for this bird; is this thing able to super-cruise?
GGTharos Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 It's possible to get'em up there clean and low-weight at fairly high speed ... at least, 65000' is potentially possible. 72000' ... zoom climb, what goes up MUST come down. You hit Ps=0 well before 70k. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

What is the advantage of using a mig-31 instead of the su-30 and what is the standard mission profile for this bird; is this thing able to super-cruise? This is what i know. The mig-31 and mig-25 where made for high-altitude interception. The Su-30 was made as the "head" of a group of su-27.
nscode Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 (edited) The black panel is radar and datalink, opperated by the RIO in the back seat.
