swift Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 In a world depending on fossil energies, the Solar Impulse project is a paradox, almost a provocation: it aims to have an airplane take off and fly autonomously, day and night, propelled uniquely by solar energy, right round the world without fuel or pollution. An unachievable goal without pushing back the current technological limits in all fields...
nscode Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Pushing technological limits? How is it different from solar aircraft from 40 years ago? Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
Vekkinho Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 It can also do drifting! bad a@#@ airplane! Can't you see those main gear tyres are busted now! Check how awkwardly she sits on the tarmac after that stunt! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
mikoyan Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Can't you see those main gear tyres are busted now! Check how awkwardly she sits on the tarmac after that stunt! Still; the hornet is a great jet.
nscode Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 not a stunt.. his right tyre was blown on landing Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
DamianJG54K Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Nice "stunt"!!! Regards!!! 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] DamianJG54K.
topol-m Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 (edited) wow the second picture! Eternal beauty  What`s the exact designation of this aircraft? I`m having difficulties telling Su-27 from Su-27SM from Su-35. Edited June 28, 2011 by topol-m [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
zakobi Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 (edited) Dunno if this will help you, topol-m. http://www.aviapedia.com/documentation/su-27-family-visual-differences-table Off-set trackball seems to one of the ways to differentiate. That is between Su-27 and Su-27sm/Su-35. Some talk about the adding of a second antenna on the back, that is with the sm3 Might be able ti find more here. http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=225995 Edited June 28, 2011 by zakobi
topol-m Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Thanks, this seems to be a Su-27SM from the Lipetsk Air Base, at least it looks like those based there. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Vekkinho Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 All of those Flankers are SM and yes that's Lypetsk. You can say by many diferences, one of them being lack of IFF antennae on engine nacelles. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

aaron886 Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Can't you see those main gear tyres are busted now! Check how awkwardly she sits on the tarmac after that stunt! It's called a ground-loop. With (probably) inoperative brakes, it's the best way to stop a 20-ton runaway train. :glare:
Vekkinho Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Sometimes planes taxi with single engine as this shortens the "scramble time". Sometimes asymmetrical trust is being used for better steering during taxi. It's hard to tell isthe engine idling or completely cold! VVS do single-engine taxis or something? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Avilator Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 It's called a ground-loop. With (probably) inoperative brakes, it's the best way to stop a 20-ton runaway train. :glare: Did a stuck brake cause the issue to begin with? mvsgas Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Shatner-Narrated Shuttle Documentary Premieres July 1 on NTV Cool thanks, I think is we should be able to watch online as well. http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
