These are the SMT's rejected by Algeria. Very likely stored Ex Soviet 9-13 models that were then upgraded to SMT standard, hence the corrosion and old components the Algerians observed in them. .

The extra fuel comes from redesigned primary internal tank. Yes but there is no room in the MiG-29 airframe for larger fuel tanks - hence the need for the "hump back", which BTW is far more pronounced on the SMT than on the 9-13. The exception is the MiG-29M/MiG-29K for which the changed FOD protection system(no auxillary overwing intakes) made room for extra fuel in the LERX'es - i.e. no need for that ugly hump :) .
