A good way to learn how to work the radio and to get positive feedback is to use SRS. Connect to a server but start a mission in single player. This should load it up into SRS. Then move the overlay to the center of the screen and play with the radio. This will help to know when you have a channel selected, changed, etc. Otherwise there is no feedback to confirm you have done it correctly.

200 channels is a lot, and that menu could get messy if it’s not laid out well, but having the ability to configure the radios in the ME is a must I agree. It would be great if he defaults aligned with the other radios in DCS. Having to retune the tomcats presets was always a pain since most ED aircraft have matching presets assuming the frequency bands are the same.

Is there actually no way to read back the frequency you're transmitting on after you've set it?

Would it be possible to have a set of presets? For example 5 sets of 20 that can be picked via the special options menu? For example if I want to play on Muiltiplayer ServerX I would pick the "X Radios" Preset. Presets could be defined via lua outside the game in a specific format.

 

This would "simulate" the ground crew presetting the radios before a sortie or operation, which happens irl on some platforms. 

P.S. Now that I think of it, the presets could be the mission maker defined radios + the customs. So, if I have Preset 1 with 123.00, 124.00, and 125.00, the actual presets in the game would add those three to the 20 (or so) that were already defined by the ME. E.g, the users presets would always start at 21.

Kinda complicated, but just throwing ideas out there.

Thanks for this feature, it is much appreciated and it works great! I am currently working on a "Jf17 Standalone DTC" which includes a comms tab. ETA: who knows 😄

Maybe more things can be exposed in this way in the future to enable the creation of other DTC-like functions via an external tool such as laser settings and waypoints. I don't know how feasible it would be able to land (or spawn), remove the DTC, hop out of DCS for a bit to use the tool, export, and then pop the DTC back in with the changed values. 

 

Again, thanks for the flexibility and agility on the Jf17 development!

your tool looks awesome

probably i can prepare some external command such that you can use your tool to issue command
