Hi all,

I have zero idea how to configure OVGME for DCS so I can install mods. Is there a tutorial for this on DCS? Please help :)

Yes. It is sticky number 8 in this topic.

Called "How to configure OvGME for DCS".

If you don't see it. Just search the forum for that headline.

Hope you find it. It's a great app!

Good Day! I have a question about OvGME. I wish to set up two or three configs for each map. Say. WWI WW II, and modern. But OvGME will only allow one config per install. Anyway way around this? I though of using the other mod management tool to do this but would prefer to use only the one program. Any thoughts?

You should be able to do this, as long as you keep profile names different for each.

I have one profile for "OpenBeta" mods, one for "Release" mods, and finally one for "SaveGames" mods. I used to have one each for "SaveGames" , but then I saw it was totally redundant and wasted space, as the mods are the same for any release anyway. I now have hardlinks from "Save Games" for both "Release" and "OpenBeta" to mods folder, tracks, screenshot, controls etc.

Hmmmm,

Ok

This is what I want to do.

I have 1.5, 2.5 stable and 2.5 OB installed.

OvGME has four profiles at present.

1) 1.5

2)2.5 stable

3)2.5 OB

4)2.5 Main DCS folder for core file mods

All currently use the same mod repository folder.

This folder has grown quite large.

So I wish to move all WW II related mods to a new repository folder,

And then create a new profile using this new folder.

Only also using the OB saved games location.

This is not allowed.

OvGME states one already exists for this location.

To be able to arrange the mods into era's would reduce the number in each profile making the searching and selecting of assets easier.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

What OvGME calls "Config" is actually a Configuration for each game that you have. For example I could have a Config to manage the Mods that I have for IL-2, another for managing the Mods of DCS, etc.

If you have DCS stable and DCS Openbeta installed on the same PC, you create one Config for each and OvGME will handle them like two separate games.

What you actually want is to have different Mods combinations, for a single game. OvGME handles this trough the use of "Profiles". A profile is noting more than a combination of Mods that can be enabled or disabled as a single unit.

To create a profile, first disable all your Mods with Mods -> Disable -> All

Now, enable just the Mods that you use on your WW2 Missions, by double click on each.

Now save this Mod combination with Mods -> Profile -> Save Current ... give it a name like "WW II"

Now, repeat the whole procedure for the next combination: Disable all, manually enable the Mods that you use on Modern Missions, Save as a new profile and name it "Modern"

From here on, you can enable each Mod combination with Mods -> Profile -> Click on the name of the combination you want to use, like this:

Cheers!

Edit:

Never mind, my brain is mush today. Do what Eduardo says!

Ahh... I see the problem. Either way to to it will have some "overhead" I guess. Well, here are some suggestions:

1. You could rename/repack the mods into "groups" , but that would be cumbersome since you have so many.

2. Different Symbolic links to the Save Games folders, will trick OvGME. So that could be a cool smooth solution. Just remember to document it, so you don't forget the setup.

3. Different shares to the "Save Games" folders, could probably work too.

4. What probably would be easiest to setup, is just to copy/multiply your OvGME folder to whatever, since it is, luckily, just an exe with config files. No registry. Have shortcuts 1.5 WWII, Release ETC to b the different exe in the different folders.

This is my suggestions from the top of my head. Might be other/better ways to do it of course.

Best of luck though, and let's hear what you end up with!

@Rudel

You have saved the day again!

This is a acceptable solution, only requiring me to re-locate the mods repository folder to a dedicated drive.

That sucker has grown to enormous size....:D

Too much modding.....

Thanks MY friend!

If there is anything you would like to see in sim, just ask.

I will see if I can return the favor!

Gracias

You are most welcome .. I cant do anything about the Single Folder repository that each Config uses, but the profiles do help a lot when configuring DCS prior starting it .. you could even have a Config with the specific Mods needed for a single Mission, so that you dont need to remember which Mods were required to play it.

Thanks MY friend!

I use a lot of VSN aircrafts, but never to actually fly them, but as AI aircrafts to be used as background forces on my missions.

So, I'd love to have more AI aircrafts, particularly from 1935-45, I loved a Westland Whirlwind that you used to have (the aircraft, not the helo) .. I've seen that you've recovered quite a lot of old Mods and updated them for 2.5.5 ... they are nice to have, I use the B-29 a lot on MiG-15 missions :) .. so, just keep creating that type of Mods, they are truly appreciated.

Greetings,

Eduardo

Hi, I have a quick question regarding using OVGME…… while most mods go in saved games, some need installing in DCS root folder. How does the manager know where they go, or do you need to establish this first? And how do you set up the manager to install the mods in the correct place?

thanks!

While I think it might be possible to setup 2 profiles in OVGME to do that, I just use it for mods which go into the main installation folder of DCS.
All mods that go into the Saved Games folder don't really conflict with the DCS installer anyway.  So I manage the Saves Games folder manually.

It doesn't know, this Utility has no AI of its own, it is the user the one that has to know if a certain Mod goes at /Saved Games/ or at the /DCS/ folder. How does the user know that? by reading the Mod's instructions.

You create a separate Config entry for the DCS folder, and another entry for the Saved Games folder, like if they were two separate games (OvGME can be used for all of your mod-able games), it looks like this:

Profiles are actually used to group related Mods in such a way that you can install / uninstall them quickly .. but they work for a single game Config, so they are not really useful for this case. They look like this:

"All mods that go into the Saved Games folder don't really conflict with the DCS installer anyway.  So I manage the Saves Games folder manually."

While it is true that the DCS updater does not touch the /Saved Games/ path, and update can easily break a Mod, or Mods can also conflict with each other .. .to solve and diagnose those cases, having OvGME managing them saves a lot of time and grief.

Thanks Rudel, that is kinda what I thought and how I have set mine up. Some mods simply dont show up when I place them in the folder, why is that? Is it down to the folder structure?

I have no idea, all of my Mods show up on the OvGME list.

Don't know, maybe .. which specific Mod gives you this problem?

This is not an obligation, OvGME only recognises mods zipped by itself, so you have to do it using the software if you want (Mods\Make Mod-Archive..... option).

The mods can be ziiper or don´t, but they need to have the correct path folders created.

Haha! 😄 What I meant is that I can't remember ED support providing an installer, if I understand it l correctly, for a single module before. OR did they provide you a command line syntax to force install it? Can't believe I didn't suggest that. 🤦🏼‍♂️

I can't remember a command line but it was a link that force installed.

BUT it is still corrupted the way my own copy was. I'm still doing a slow-motion dance with Support due to the time difference.
