BBQ Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 http://www.simhq.com/_air10/air_320a.html A great new article at SimHQ--brought back a lot of memories! I hope I'll be creating a lot of new memories with BS :smilewink: And wow--you can actually get Longbow 2 to run on today's PC's!?
Flanker15 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 http://www.simhq.com/_air10/air_320a.html And wow--you can't actually get Longbow 2 to run on today's PC's!? Good luck! LB2 is one of the most uncooperative games in history to get working in XP! I've never been able to make it run using any of the guides.
Yeniceri Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 i can run it just fine!! [sIGPIC]http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa200/misikci/41-imza-1.jpg[/sIGPIC] "To infinity...and beyond!.." SIM-MOD Modeler TURK!
bradmick Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I just recently picked up a copy off of e-bay myself, and got it running fine and with the Glide Wrapper, the graphics have been significantly boosted. It's an awesome game, but flies nothing like the real deal, heheh. It also makes me think that a Longbow sim might be do-able now. There's a lot of stuff about the aircraft in there, and by my thinking if its in there, then it could be alright to talk about now. But...we'll have to see :) Brad
Shepski Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Wow does that bring back memories! FPK was stunning when it was released and watching the Blackhawks insert special forces units while hoovering in your Apache a safe distance away and waiting for them to come running back to the Blackhawks followed by the explosives being detonated was one of the best PC sim experiences of that time. Loved FPK and LB2!
Outlaw24 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 LB2 and FPK were two history making sims spent many hours flying them, what memories. joey45 Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 FPK..? The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. martinistripes Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 I also got a copy off ebay recently. Works fine for me in xp, just used a program called dgvoodoo. Some achievement when you consider it's 10 years old and you compare to what other games were around in '97! I've had a play but finding it very tricky using my Thrustmaster gamepad especially with the realistic flight model on, you really need a stick and pedals. I'll have to invest... especially with BS on the horizon. Valve Index | RTX 4080 (Mobile) | i9-14900HX @ 2.20 GHz | 32GB RAM
bradmick Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 I gotta say though my favorite sim for the Apache has to be Digital Integrations/Interactive Magics Apache (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_(computer_game)). I had to liberate this one from my dad because he was getting ready to get rid of it in a Garage sale. Runs PERFECT in Dosbox. Definately recomend it as well. Brad
JaNk0 Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Hey Brad....you know this upcoming Apache game from DCS...well I'll let you have the honor to be my pilot ! Just kidding...:P There was a good apache game, that i don't remember the title of that was closly simulated. You had to do the Ramp procedure and all that....does it ring any bells here? Team Apache? I leked that one as well, but I can't remember if it was arcade or just not that deeply simulated. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
Flanker15 Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Ok I'm gonna try to get it running again with a new copy of LB2! I picked up a copy of LB antholigy for $7 on ebay and whats more the guy lives only a few km away
JaNk0 Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 FFB, I don't think it's that game. Damit! If I every play it again I'll be sure to remember the title! But as I said. If there is a Apache sim that you know there is a RAMP procedure and kinda hard to fly becuase of its "realistic" modeling, plz feel free to say which game it is! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
bradmick Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Hey Brad....you know this upcoming Apache game from DCS...well I'll let you have the honor to be my pilot ! Heheh, by that time i'll have a few more than 5 hours under my belt in the aircraft :) So i'll actually be worth something to you then, hehe. Brad
amalahama Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 But as I said. If there is a Apache sim that you know there is a RAMP procedure and kinda hard to fly becuase of its "realistic" modeling, plz feel free to say which game it is! Combat helo: I think the project went down, unfortunately. Regards!!!

You don't mean Apache Longbow... by the same crew that made Hind? That was difficult! There was an enemy difficulty slider I used to set to max and me and a friend once stayed up all night challenging each other to see who could sneak & dodge furthest along the waypoints before becoming toast. Just reaching your objective was near impossible sometimes. It convinced me to go out and buy Hind. If I remember right I think it was possible to link both games up, one fly Apache the other the Hind. Valve Index | RTX 4080 (Mobile) | i9-14900HX @ 2.20 GHz | 32GB RAM
Flanker15 Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Still can't get it to run. I install the game see that it's version 2.07F so i run the patch, it says that it can't find the old files but has found a file of the same name so it won't run ok.... So I do all the other things in the guide and go to start it in software Error: windows can't access this file, make sure you have approprite permissions! WTF I'm the administrator! Can't get anyfurther and it doesn't help that AVG seems to think LB2.exe is a virus!

I'll let you guys be updated! Thanks for your help:thumbup: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Flanker15 Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Yay I got it to run, turns out LB:A has all of the patches and fixes already installed so running the patch again destroys the exe file!
arneh Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 It's an awesome game, but flies nothing like the real deal, heheh. That's interesting to hear. The general wisdom in the Longbow community seems to be that the flight model is pretty much perfect and can't be improved. I just need to quote from the arcticle: "The flight model is second to none, and the helicopter handles just like a real Apache." So would be interesting to hear what you, who've actually flown the real thing, find wrong with it :)
Shepski Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Team Apache? I leked that one as well, but I can't remember if it was arcade or just not that deeply simulated. Here's some obscure info... Wags, myself, and a small group of the Flanker 2.0 beta team were testers for Team Apache. I really liked the interactive training it had.
EricJ Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 lol somehow that's not surprising. LB2 was great and besides, the only time I've worked with Apaches was the RNLAF squadron that's stationed here. Fun people and while dry, was fun..
