rockwelder Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 With Glove PIE software it says Track IR compatible ... so one of these pointed at your head with IR LEDS will be Cheaper than Track IR.
Eagle Driver Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 That first one is a good indication that the rift between console and PC is narrowing, because he just made himself a 6DOF TrackIR out of a Wii. As for the screen thing, I can just see that kind of thing revolutionizing board meetings and putting SmartBoards out of business. Why buy the board when you can use your TrackIR 6 (with 18DOF, lol) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] If you fly a perfect Defensive BFM and the bandit does a perfect Offensive... RedTiger Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 That's cool and all, but how is that any different than what Black Shark or MSFS X already does with TrackIR? 6DOF usually means that you can look around cockpit structures and view everything as if it is 3D. Thats all he was doing with those targets.
Weta43 Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 That's cool and all, but how is that any different than what Black Shark or MSFS X already does with TrackIR? 6DOF usually means that you can look around cockpit structures and view everything as if it is 3D. Thats all he was doing with those targets. True, and the 3 point tracking used by 6 dof TIR would probably allow more functionality than the 2 point system used by wii, but it's a good suggestion to wii game devs to utilise the technology already in their gaming system, & the whiteboard stuff was very clever lateral thinking in a what else can I use my wii for sort of way. Cheers.
rockwelder Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Wii can track up to 4 IR sources at 1024 res or something like that....
Weta43 Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Oh yeah - he said that didn't he !!! Well - there you are then - wii should offer 6dof TIR performance plus ! Cheers.
Eagle Driver Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 The difference I see is that his Wii didn't let you really look around much in 3D, just move. He could move in, move up, move side/side, but he couldn't look side/side, look up, or tilt his head. The latter two really change your FOV a lot, and I think it would be hard to make it as 3D as what he got. I noticed things in MSFSX were not even close to being QUITE as immersive as what he got with that room. Maybe I'm just confused... The point is that in sted of buying a $300 TrackIr system all you need in a Wiimote about $40 2-3 Ir lights on your head some how. and the bluetooth sofware on your PC. Your looking at less than a $100 for the same thing. As for the room it was the program that limited the movement in the room. its like compairing Jane's F/A-18 to DCS BS. Blacknemisis Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 So this can work with FSX and BS? Because I was wanting to buy the TIR but it is a little out of my price range. But if this works I would spend the money for this and those glasses with the IR things on them looks way better than the TIR hat and the Headphone piece.
CAT_101st Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 A frind of mine (very Smart) is going to test it out on FSX and let me know how it works. significant Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Wow! Head Tracking video is incredible! Can I get same experience using TrackIR4?

Try $170.00: http://www.gogamer.com I got mine with a discount directly from NaturalPoint by clicking on an advirtisement at Simhq. I'd rather spend $170.00 for a proven product specifically made to work with the software than some hobbled together crap. I didn't see anything special in that video, same type of thing you get with 4 or 6DOF.
Weta43 Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 True - but what he's pointing out is that everyone who owns a wii, also already owns a headtracker - for free. They don't need to buy anything more if game devs write programmes to allow head tracking. Cheers.
Blacknemisis Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Well I rather send 70 to 80$ tops instead of 170$ plus shipping and waiting for it to come. Let me know if your friend got it to work.
