SkateZilla Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Like I said in the other thread, RTX Titan (Turing) 2499.99 MSRP, 24GB, 4608 CUDA, 72 RT Cores Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
derneuemann Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Rdna 2 will be competing with the 30 series, not turing. And this is just great, we need competition. I hope so. I5 13400F, 32GB DDR5 6200 CL30, RTX4070ti Super 2x 1tb m.2 (PCIe4.0)
Wali763 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 (edited) I was very sure to get the RTX3080TI or and AMD-equivalent until 2 months ago, but right now Im not sure any more. It just seems to me DCS is way too CPU-bound to use the GPU accordingly. Recently I had a situation, where I had 7fps in 2.5.6! But thats most likely related to 2.5.6 and will hopefully be resolve soon. Normally I have only dips down to 40-50. Looking at Afterburner my (moderate) 2070-GPU usually only gets used maybe 50-70 percent with my 60fps-cap (because of TrackIR) on my 1440p-monitor. Also with the Reverb (the last HMD I tested) it seemed, that my GPU was not the bottleneck. All the fps-dips came from very high CPU-frametimes.. So what would a RTX3080Ti give me? On monitor I have pretty high settings and only could use (DCS-) SSAA or SSLR to up GPU-load. But what would that give me? Not too much I guess. In VR I could obviously up the SS/PD but that would only give me a slightly better image depending on the HMD. Overall I have the feeling, that a better GPU will increase (non-capped) FPS by maybe 50% in perfect situations, but I still will have the CPU-caused drops to 40 or 50 on my monitor. So the max fps (or some graphical settings) will be higher, but the drops will still be the same as before. This IMO will be true until DCS will offer real support for multicore-CPUs. So actually right now I think, investing in a 1200ish-RTX3080Ti is money thrown out of the window. Anybody can give an argument to still buy such a expensive card? Edited April 29, 2020 by Wali763
BranchPrediction Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Well i myself also play other games. And with the new remaster of that certain high graphics game that i cannot name coming out soon, i will have to upgrade my gpu. But 1200€ i will not pay. I would like to own the top card for once, but i just cannot pay 1000 to 1200 euros :(

Other than to have the latest and newest, there is no reason. I keep my GPU's for 6+ years before upgrading, I should be getting a 5700XT, but I figured w/ work being uncertain and stuff I'll wait for rDNA2 equiv. Even though I run 6 Screens or VR For games, I still use my R7970 Lightnings just fine across 6 screens or in VR. Like most people, DCS being the outlaying sim that likes to have low FPS. Since I have so many I/O needs, The Actual Graphics Cards that support my setup are usually in the line of 1 or 2 per generation, and that still counts having to buy new adapters. While I Could get a 5700XT now, and literally Double Quadruple my performance from this GCN1.0 R7970 Overclocked to the edge of temperal existance. I can wait and get the rDNA2 Refresh that would use 35-40% less power (so instead of 225w, I can get one that would use 150w) Etc etc. the R7970 Lightnings were over $800 each when I bought them, and I have 3, (1 is dead, but I keep for parts). Upgrading every year or 2 at the cost of $1.2K+ isnt feasable. Although, this same R7970 Card is selling in trade sites to coin miners for 800-1K a peice. BranchPrediction Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Ah yes SkateZilla, the legendary 7970, the gcn 1.0 architecture was the best there was back then. 7970 can game well even today. And they have good overclocking potential aswell. Truly legendary cards.
bad_turbulence Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 RTX Titan is $2499 USD you can buy two 3080Ti's for that price and set them up with NVLink and have a super system. And you'd still have money left over to get the Virpil Throttle.

Svsmokey Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Does vulkan use more vram? Yes , because it preloads shaders/ textures before drawing a frame . The developers of that civilian sim that implemented it made a presentation on YT . I'll see if i can find it . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
Svsmokey Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Yeah , Austin Meyer's channel has the Vulkan presentation on YT , that explains their implementation and its effects on VRAM . Sorry , don't know how to link YT vids :) 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
dburne Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 Revealed in August, Not For Sale. RTX2000 Was Revealed in August 2018, Founders Editions were Released Sept. 20, with Cards being Generally Available By December. And I'd Still wait for rDNA 2 Cards. RTX 3000's Up to 50% Faster Line is deceiving, as it applies mainly to RayTracing. If AMD's rDNA 2 Cards w/ RT Compete it will force nVidia to dump prices to match. SkateZilla Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 RTX3080 Ti Rumors to be > 8000 Cores. BranchPrediction Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 I doubt that the 3080ti will have anywhere near 8000 cuda cores. I think that 8096 cores rumour is for the datacenter. I mean 8000 cores is above 120 CU's

BranchPrediction Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 All cpus are different, his can do 5.2ghz and that other guys can only 4.9ghz at the exact same settings. But for overcloking u want to mess around with the voltage, load line calibration and the multiplier. Btw u made a mistake in ur signature. U wrote i7 9900k but its i9 9900k :)
