Tomahawk674 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Last week I FINALLY dished out the cash for high speed internet. I had been using dialup for years, and since I moved to a new place I went ahead and got me the fastest internet service I could get, 3000kbps for $50/month. I installed hyperlobby today and tried joining my first mp game. After flying around some I was able to get a retrating F-15 who I think was running away or evading someone else. I didn't have much time to try different flights and servers, but I'll try again this afternoon. I hope to learn how to play in a more organized fashion, with set goals etc, not just furballs. Thanks to the guys responsible for building/maintaining the Hyperlobby
GGTharos Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 WTF! Details man, DETAILS! You can't just describe the kill like that :D 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
S77th-GOYA Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 That first kill is a great feeling. I recorded a track of my first LOMAC online flight.
ED Team Groove Posted January 11, 2008 ED Team Posted January 11, 2008 My first and _only_ online kill so far was a enemy F-15 which i killed with a R-73 :D Well he saw the missile coming and decided to break away without flares. Im sure he was a A2A mastermind :D Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
GGTharos Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 He probably was hoarding the flares for a bigger threat ... than an AAM. :P Silly. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Geier Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 As far as I remember my first online successful sortie with 1 kill was 2 years ago... I was flying Mig29C and killed my first bandit by R73
Sytse Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 $ 50 for 3000 kbps? Seems a tad expensive to me... where do you live? You can test your internet speed on speedtest.net. Good job on your first kill. Ironicaly, I have yet to explore the A2A combat side of LOMAC, but I did score some gun kills... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Virtual Red Arrows homepage
Tomahawk674 Posted January 11, 2008 Author Posted January 11, 2008 Details? Errmmm, there was no mission goals anywhere that I could see, so I took off and then AWACS said directions for bandits. Radar on and then I saw the jammer signal, which makes it easy to spot them :D As I was approaching I saw on the radar he had an enemy more or less to his side, medium distance. Maybe he had a missile coming to him I don't know. As soon as radar broke the jamming signal, R27 away, I turn to the side to not close in too fast, I saw his direction change (probably trying to beam it) then another R27, several seconds later, R77, then, off the radar he goes, kill #1 for me. It was a lucky strike!
Tomahawk674 Posted January 11, 2008 Author Posted January 11, 2008 Oh and about the internet, yeah, it's slightly steep, but the cheaper more competitive service is not available in my area. It does perform well though, I did the speedtest.net and got 4500 down and 500 up.
Sytse Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Well that's better than 3000... :D Anyway, enough to play LOMAC online ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Virtual Red Arrows homepage
Tomahawk674 Posted January 12, 2008 Author Posted January 12, 2008 Yay! After 2:30 hours of playing, I got 7 kills at the =RAF= server! That's better than I expected... I did notice one thing. My system can give me very good FPS offline, and it was giving me great FPS online for a long while, but the last half hour of playing the FPS started getting very choppy. Is this some kind of memory leak issue, or is that caused by people joining with slow connections? Anyways... lots of fun!

It's accumulations of debris from destroyed jets and ground objects, if it gets too much for your PC (it does for ANY PC) just quickly exit and rejoin the mission and all those will vanish, giving your FPS back :)

Spidey209 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 My only kill to date is a hasty 9 shot on a friendly. I wasn't expecting the HUD to start flashing ( <<<==== RTFBriefTard ) and I paniced. I also got into a knife fight with a Mig-29 in my F-15. He bugged out and I closed in for the kill only to see him pull further and further away. Thats when I noticed the ground was moving slower and slower even though I was at full afterburner!!! Check fuel gauge, sure enough, it reads E=Ediot. Technically a loss, but I landed some hits, so it feels like a win.

Um I'm not an expert in fuel managment or anything of that nature, but I'm pretty shure that a F-15 (IN LOCKON) carries more fuel than the MiG-29A, G, or C... Even if you put less internal fuel to lighten you (making you more manouverable) putting on CFT's should make up for that and when dropped gives you extra Liposuction (;))...... Or were you just on FULL AFTERBURNER THE ENTIRE TIME:joystick::joystick::joystick:. Yeah I've done that before too. vrv Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 My first online kill was against one of my squad mates. AMRAAM to the Flanker's face :D. I won't ever forget that feeling even though he shot me down with one of his a few seconds later lol [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] EtherealN: I will promptly perform a sex change and offer my hand in marriage to whomever
pauldy Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 My 1st kill was an Su-25T using an AIM-120 (though maybe it's kinda foul-not-counted..) The more real one would be my nailing of a MiG-29S using an AIM-120 without being killed.. though i think he's fated to be shot down since there were other aircraft from our side engaging him.. It took me a while how to figure out how to IFF, especially if you are trying to sneak up on someone with the radar off...There is no safe way to do that online. Funk on YouTube!
Fahhh Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) Haha, yeah my first online kill was a freindly...And my second as well. It took me a while how to figure out how to IFF, especially if you are trying to sneak up on someone with the radar off...There is no safe way to do that online. There always is... Sneak up on him, close and when he is well in range of your missiles, turn your radar on just for a sec to IFF, and if it's a bandit, fire and extend. In 99% of the cases, he won't be able to detect you fast enough to engage and fire back, and you will be sure you shot an enemy, not a friendly... One more thing, always try to stay out of his line of sight(be it visual or radar). Try flanking, or if he is low, you stay high and vice-versa. Edited January 26, 2010 by Fahhh
