Simmers like us tend to keep buying computer hardware and software to enhance our simming experience. Some stuff are purely gaming accessories. We seem to be constantly buying gadgets, which is 'essential' to us, like trackir, rudder, th2go, more monitors, bass shaker, more RAM, better graphics card etc. but the 'importance' of these stuff is not so obvious to the wife.

If you are like me, with limited $, and sometimes get questioned by the wife, here's my reason, 'well honey, i did not spend $30 plus grand on a new Acura or Lexus SUV like my colleagues. instead i'm driving this old, used $6k car, so TECHNICALLY we have saved $20k plus, so this is just using a fraction of that saving...'

Or you can say 'it is my money man, i can do what i want!' and see if you end up sleeping on the couch that night, or many nights...

Of course there are a lucky few who don't get questioned or seem to have unlimited simming funds.

my take

Well, I'm not drinking our money away, nor buying drugs, nor running the piss out of my little Subaru WRX (premium gas-sucking piglet that it is) anymore. In fact, I'm only upgrading maybe every three years. Simming is a hobby for me, and some hobbies cost $. I guess I could save a bit more money by taking up whistling:music_whistling: But hey man, eye of the needle. Can't take it with ya. My wife is understanding as long as I don't go this route too frequently. Besides, I sell off my old stuff to help finance the new. Further, I don't buy the absolute fasted, baddest multi-this-n-that components. In fact I'm waiting for the new Nvidia 9xxx series to come out so I can find a bargain on the 8800GT. If I can swing a decent SLi mobo then one day I can buy another GT for less than I paid for the first one. So far I'm trying to wait until May before I begin my rebuild. Oh and a new Kentfield e8400 @ $183.00 US is right up my alley.:smilewink:

All things in moderation, eh? Otherise, I just sold my old BFG 6800 Ultra for about $80.00. It was $450.00 new.

I solved that problem with one HUGE update (double duelcore and stuff like that) and one major explaining :) I guess i will be OK for some time..

In these days my main problem is not the money or upgrades..

Its the time...

Working on BS,

Working on A-10,

And Fly'n with guys ..

Takes a lot of my time at nights..(and reading and movies (i am a movie addict!.))

And she started to be little upset about it..

I entered the new year talking with Deadman about the Hog's skin system.

Go figure!..

Don't think for one second they don't mind. Women are not the same creature as us men. We're just big lump-o-lard sulking around behind them at the mall at snail pace. They are just waiting for that one day when they want to leave your butt and only then will you hear...

You're always on that computer playing games. But my best friend, Tyrone, on the other hand, treats me like a woman.

You'll utter "You have a best friend named Tyrone?"

This is where she gives a speech how you never paid attention to her.

lol

Leafer if we listen to you we'll all be out on the street holding only our "joysticks"! :D My wife is cool with my simming, though I haven't actually done so in two years now. My system fried, so I use hers to keep up with things until I finally decide on how I want to build my rig.

Flyby out

hehe Just messing around with you guys is all. If there's one thing I learned from my past relationships is 'they' (the enemy) possess God-like memory. Watch what you say and 'catalog' them comrade. You never know when the enemy is going to pop you a question that will stumble you.

My wife remembers EVERYTHING I ever said or did, with seeming emphasis on what I did that ticked her off. Men let go. Women let build. If memory was money they'd make a killing on interest alone!:smartass: And nothing grieves me more than to have my wife try to relate how something I did eons ago is relevant to the arguement at hand. She has quite a database too as we've been married for nearly 32 years now! If I had committed manslaughter back then I'd at least have been a free man by now!:megalol:

shhhhh!!! here she comes!:noexpression:

SimHQ article on the subject by the quirky IL-2 guy "Dart". I don't have the wife/girlfriend problem because, in order, I'm only sixteen and I'm not at the top of the social ladder so to speak. However, I too have a financial menace, known as the Mother. While maybe less likely to come down hard on flightsim purchases, this is only because there is no flightsim purchases unless she is doing the purchasing. My problem is not one of getting her to "let me" buy something but rather to actually go out and buy it for Christmas or something without balancing the equation by cutting off the food supply or similar. It's starting to get to the part-time job stage which will begin in Summer, which will hopefully bring a major pre-DCS/FighterOps upgrade.

classic thread, my wife is sweet with it all, she does her thing i do mine.

by no means are we rich, not even well off,

but never get told no if i want something new,

i would have trouble dealing with that.

we both work hard so why not enjoy it now and then, she's getting better but i usually have to tell her to buy something she likes,

so hows that for a turn up for the books.

as others have said,

there's a lot worse you could be doing than gaming with mates online.

sure it can be expensive, but its all relative.

if they quiz you about a pc part etc, remind them that last week she had her hair done, and 2moro its off to get the nails fixed that only need fixing because she got them done in the first place etc etc, hehe.

My better half is cool with my simming/gaming in general, as long as I don't wake her up with loud noises when she sleeps, and gets some attention when she wants it. Which usually is, strangely enough, just when I'm in the middle of a multiplayer-fight and flying for my life :megalol:

When it comes to new things, I practice the "Easier to get forgiveness than permission"-policy. What she doesn't know/see doesn't hurt her. And if she notices, I have contingencyplans and/or excuses ready. Plus a coffin and a pre-dug grave, of course :D

That, or like me just just cannot get one...

LOL Im single too, welcome to the club! :D Hope I wont be in it too long.

Aproaching women is not as hard as most people think. As long as you have imagination for the talk its easy to get close. Im telling you this because Im on the hunt, though I have my share of nail and teeth marks on me...its a jungle out there! :D

Even without a commitment hanging arround with women does dent your wallet, geesh. This christmas I must have paid arround 200 Euro in dinners at restaurants not to mention the presents. (never lockon to a single target man) ;)

While single I still cannot spend as much money as I would like. But then my salary aint grand either and that contributes for my lack of motivation to buy any further toys.
