BallsOFire Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 (edited) I really would like to fly F4s off a carrier or Thuds out of DaNang and try to make it back alive. IMO it was one of the most dynamic air engagements ever and a game changing time in aviation history. You had just the beginnings of air to air missiles that sucked, you still had to out fly your opponent and get behind him but have ass kicking jets to do it in. The SAMs were relatively easy to defeat compared to today's but there were lots of them so high pucker factor, and then trying to make it back to the ship (or at least to the sea where you could be picked up). It just seems like the whole environment would be awesome, and don't forget to pipe in some Doors, lol. I wonder why this era is pretty much ignored? Well at least we have a Huey, that's a good start. Hell I think flying an OV-10, marking targets for the F4s would be awesome too. I'd love both Vietnam and Korea. With the Huey, F-5E Tiger II, the announcement of the A-7D Corsair II and getting an F-4E Phantom II being an open secret we'd have plenty of toys to play with over Vietnam. (And the Tomcat's first combat air patrol over a warzone was during the Fall of Saigon, which really should date that plane.) But for Korea not only do we have some iconic Korean War airplanes (P-51, F-86 and MiG-15), That Other Simulator shipped with a Korean map and I'd love to fly there again in a modern simulator. I can practically fly from Kunsan to Pyongyang with my eyes closed. Everything in DCS is either too early (F86/mig15) too Russian :megalol: (mig19), or too late (everything else) … The upcoming F8J might be sort of close, but I also think its too late (F8E was VN right?). Maybe we can pretend the war lasted a bit longer so the 21bis and the F8J and F14A can have a party...
