Matias Oliva Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Playing DCS every once in a while gives me fps jerks, the gpu drops from 98% to 0% and then goes up again. The incredible thing is that I lowered the settings to the minimum and it produced more jerks and the frame rate worsened. Does anyone know what can I do? I have limited the frames to 30fps to improve the framerate but it is still not good.:helpsmilie: My laptop: (its new) Nvidia gtx 1650 4GB GDDR5 128-bit 9° Intel® Core™ i7-9750H (12M Cache, 2.6 GHz) 16gb ram I use HDD (I check the temperatures and is normal). RedeyeStorm Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 In DCS you never know for sure what the problem is. I suspect only helps with loading speed and not so much during play. Fly from HD now used SSD before never noticed a difference during play.
VpR81 Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Hi HDD is not good -> think about SSD with good performance (not the first price) Go i think GTX 1650 is not very good too :-) I suffer the same issue and have DCS installed on a (rather fast) SSD. By my experience SSD does not help with ingame performance, only with loading speed. Also the GTX 1650 isn't the best GFX card to play DCS, yes, but this is for sure not the reason why his GPU usage drops to 0% and then goes up again. I suffer this in SP after playing for like an hour or two, in MP a bit faster (or immediatly after beeing shot down). My FPS is at stable 60-65 in MP and then drops to 1 with my GPU usage dropping to 0% in tandem. Then it goes back to normal, just to drop again after like 10-20 seconds. The sim turns unplayable and however only rebooting my pc helps for me. Checkmate Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 I'm having the same issue and I am running on a new pretty fast machine. I've been posting about them on an earlier thread called, "Studder Non Stop on new Machine". I thought it had to do with Track IR, but now I am convinced it's may not be the problem. Try loading DCS without Track IR and see if the Jerks go away. On my machine I see them about every second or so and I see the framerate drop out. Not sure what's causing them since I am new to DCS. Regards, Feetwet

Regards, Feetwet Thanks for comment! Yes, I am also new, but I searched a lot and found a video that helped me a lot. I will post the link and hope it helps you too. This increased my performance, but did not completely eliminate the jerks, it only reduced them as much as possible. I think DCS is the problem, not our computer. Good luck! ${1} If you cant see the video, here it´s the link: Edit: i dont use track ir Edited July 14, 2020 by Matias Oliva My Laptop: Windows 10 (64-bit) / 9° Intel® Core™ i7-9750H / Nvidia gtx 1650 4GB GDDR5 128-bit / 16GB DDR4 2400MHz PC4-19200 SDRAM SODIMM (Ram)/ 1TB 5400 rpm (HDD) + 128GB M.2 SSD PCIe NVMe

prccowboy Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 (edited) I had similar issues in the past. increasing my virtual memory (fixed size) and moving virtual memory to a SSD helped (make sure windows is NOT using any HDD's for virtual memory - even though you set virtual memory for a SSD, windows may also be using other drives. so you will want to check drive by drive whether windows is using it for virtual memory) edit: DCS (and other windows background activities) will exceed your 16GB in memory commits, so Windows will start storing memory on your HDD's = instant judder/jerkiness in game. So, make sure windows virtual memory isn't using slow HDD for storage Edited July 18, 2020 by prccowboy

Matias Oliva Posted July 18, 2020 Author Posted July 18, 2020 are you Using the new windows 10 hardware accelerated GPU Scheduling? If so turn it off and test. Nop, i dont use that. But I realized something. When I started a very heavy mission, it produced too many jerks, but when I restarted it several times and went through the same place, these jerks decreased more and more. It gives me the impression that the load of the objects was the problem (maybe my hhd its very slow and the jerks its due to that?). Hope I explain it well, hahaha My Laptop: Windows 10 (64-bit) / 9° Intel® Core™ i7-9750H / Nvidia gtx 1650 4GB GDDR5 128-bit / 16GB DDR4 2400MHz PC4-19200 SDRAM SODIMM (Ram)/ 1TB 5400 rpm (HDD) + 128GB M.2 SSD PCIe NVMe

So, use the fastest storage you have if you want jerk free
