people may have good reason to keep the ecm on or maybe they are too busy dealing with some threat to open the chat and respond you.

 

And some have their reasons, like thinking "meh i'll kick in my ECM as part of my startup procedure and keep it on so i stay invisible" i know it sounds mad but i've seen it. IMO that kind of behaviour is irresponsible.

I don't agree with placing all the responsibility for the incident with the shooter. If you make the shooter think you're a bandit, you should be expecting a missile in your face. Putting all the responsibility on the shooter to 'positively ID or hold fire' encourages a 'jammer forest' situation ...

 

Why people can't just use their jammer sparingly, I don't know - but if they can't make the effort to do THAT, then I won't make the effort of holding fire if they make me think they're a bandit - I have my own checklist for figuring that one out and it's pretty darned reasonable.

Also I highly recommend VAC. Voice Activated Commands http://www.dwvac.com/ works well within the sim for text chat. I use TS on one push to talk and speak "raygun" then I hold an alternate push to talk for VAC and again Speak "raygun" and VAC promptly opens chat and types the desired text then closes chat. No hands on keyboard, easy as pie.

I use it for raygun, buddy spike, GK S! (far too often), and TY S! (not often enough), winchester, RTB, and after seeing this thread i got a few more ideas as well.

It was a very bad idea for ED to shorten the ECM burn through range, with the intent to paly with range and altitude estimation methos in the russian planes. But I knew back then when they announced it, that everybody would just spam ECM away because they would be at disavantage if they didnt. We ended up not estimating the shots for anything because we have to way for burn through anyway.

 

Players just followed their instints to win at any cost (not that they always do, sometimes it backfires) but it hampers game play. Before everybody would just use the best tactics and stay hidden from radar to aproach. And it was infact more realistic that what we see today.

I think it was just a bigger mistake to leave ECM to be human-operable ... but that's neither here nor there, a better functioning jammer will be in DCS I'm sure.

A blue-on-blue is not caused by the one not responding to a call "Callsign confirm music on" for whatever reason, the kill is achieved by somebody firing a weapon in an unclear situation.

 

If you KNOW for sure that in the direction that you spot an ECM strobe none of your playmates is operating in front of your aircraft, you can launch as much as you want, even IR missiles.

We, in RvE, have found our solution for this- no ECM for fighters in our server. It's clear that it's not modelled properly and could be used as an exploit so we decided to save conflicts like that in our server. I, for instance, never use it when I fly a fighter. I found it more disadvantegous rather than being helpful.

Its funny that I have been in LOMAC Hyper loby, fourms, ect for about 3 years and I have got to know some of your personalities very well. So with some of your answers to my posting.

 

1. The "Mad-Spam-Ram" is way old and has no value in ECM IFF discussion.

 

2. I have 98% of the time waited untill "BURN through" to IFF a threat.

 

3. I do not have a problem getting on "Coms"

 

4. Friendly Fire is a fact of life.

 

5. TURN ECM OFF WHEN RTB! (I have been on plenty of servers with "Coms" and heard all of you guys, ALL rant about ECM's ON/OFF. Dont pretend here its useless.

 

6. Im am not going to wait for another "ET" to take me out when Im calling, "IFF ECM CHECK". Its a sure way to get killed and there is somthing that I can do about it, SPAMRAM!!!!

If everyone adopted that attitude what a dull game we'd have, launch and run its a tactic some people use way too excessively, not directed at you Mustang but it makes sad reading in stat boards when the only weapon being fired is 120 after 120, Aim-7 kills are so much more satisfying.

If your gonna take an ET in the face from pressing too much then learn from it positively, the amount of flares on a 15 is comfort enough surely.

 

I know you fly a mean Flanker Mustang so why not whip it out for old times sake.:P

The ecm blinking issue with RB was a one off situation a long time ago between him and a.n.other nothing more, so you can spin it up to the current 504 guys as much as you like as to why we left the 504 but its most definately nothing that comes from you, ask yourself how you helped make the ecm blinking issue worse numbnut, we had to make it plain on the forums that as well as blinking nobody should use your wonderous script either as that was no different.;)

I know we didn't have your approval to leave the 504 but as long as your happy stirring the sh#t to everyone out of sight and it makes you look good then fine, just stay outta my way.;)

The fact your not even in the 504, you apparently run some other squad, makes it totally none of your business as to why we left but believe me I have a hell of a lot more reasons to be pissed about the subject than you could even think up so do me a favour get over it, grow up and do one.;)
