patpatpowercat Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 It'd be awesome if you found a new Mount Whitney model, I'd love to have that.
Admiral189 Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 Thanks Guys! PatPat, i found a pretty good Mount Whitney model yesterday so no worries. She will be coming!! Below i tested static objects on the America! So far so good! 3
gunterlund21 Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Brilliant work admiral how is the aircraft ai looking for landing and takeoff I was in Art of the Kill D#@ it!!!!
Admiral189 Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 (edited) Thanks Guys! AI helicopter and aircraft take off and landing works great! That includes, from runway, parking hot and ramp. They all lineup properly and move in position to take off from the flight deck. The AI DCS & VSN Harrier, F-35B take off, land and park as they should. However, i seen a glitch on the Mariannas Map. The harrier and F-35 would take off and just hover. So i tested them on the Syria map and they work fine. I will add the code to the landing lights today to see how it works. I created a short video. blower Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Shouldn't planes align with the tram line even for VTOs?
Admiral189 Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 Hey Al, Yes, they will eventually! I was just doing a test to make sure all the aircraft departed the flight deck properly. I'm using the Tarawa's code so that's why it's not aligned. I had to realign the helicopter departure today. Lot of moving parts! Still a lot more to do!! One man shipyard! 2
gunterlund21 Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 (edited) dont forget to check rolling start with weapons loads ... great work Admiral Now all you need is working elevators and you have the full monty Edited July 6, 2021 by gunterlund21 2 I was in Art of the Kill D#@ it!!!!
Admiral189 Posted July 6, 2021 Author Posted July 6, 2021 (edited) Hey Gunter! Can you elaborate on the rolling start with weapons? Later today after work. I will test the aircraft with weapons loaded! Also, do any of guys fly harriers or the F-35? Thanks! Edited July 6, 2021 by Admiral189
Arrow11 Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Admiral, you have been doing phenomenal work. Your mods bring so much life to DCS missions and are eye candy! Wanted to say thank you and all the best for future mods. Adding some pleasant screenshots. FREMM, USS Oak Hill and a D Class at Naval Base Guam, followed by Amphibious ops at a beachhead.

They need to use the deck as a runway to launch. The AI would be able to do that. I do fly the harrier in game. if you need testing let me know. I was in Art of the Kill D#@ it!!!!
toan Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 (edited) Hi, Yes, the AI Harrier can take off from the Tarawa deck with two 300 gallons fuel tanks, if starting the take-off roll from a rear deck spot. With two AA missiles, one empty tank and one 300 gallons tank, it can take-off barely at 150 knots at the end of the flight deck, then goes down towards the sea surface as low as 50 feet, and then accelerates to normal flight. If no loadout, it will take-off vertically. But it can't if it has any loadout, except two small rocket launchers. All these figures are for the AI Harrier AV-8B. Fly low... Cdodders Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 The stern view of the Type 45 model shows a few missing items, such as the FDO shack, Horizon Bar, Doors either side of the main hangar door, RAS doors on the quarterdeck. Further investigation reveals the Minigun mounts below the bridge wings are missing, as is the armour plating for the bridge wing MG mounts. The removable bulwarks on the upper deck look like a solid piece of the structure, rather than the removable segments they are. There are a few more doors missing on the superstructure of the upper deck, and the doors for the RAS winches are also missing. Some of the life rafts are missing and I wonder if the upperdeck could have the escape hatches modelled? The FWD and AFT exhaust stacks, although modelled, tend to disappear under certain angles, which initially led me to believe they were missing, but glad they are modelled. Some smaller details such as the lines for body harnesses are missing, which given the presence of the boat line is a tad strange. I do appreciate details such as the boat lines running from the upper deck to just in front of the enclosed boat hangars. I would like to see options for the Jack staff and Ensign mast to be removed (not used at sea) and also for the Upper Deck weapons, such as the Miniguns, .50 BMG and GPMG emplacements to be equipped, including the removable ones on the foredeck, flightdeck and quarterdeck. I also wonder if there will be a version with the 30mm mounts having the LMM Martlet missiles? I would also like to see a 'dirty' version. The version we have is factory fresh. While the Bosun would love nothing more than to keep everything painted up like new, the Navy decided to stop such practices as it was adding so much weight. So it is normal to see rust streaks from the anchors, hawseholes and a few other places. Maybe a wrinkled texture for a few places like you can see on the masts in this pic Note the FDO shack, horizon bar and RCS doors on the quarterdeck. Also the texture of the hull. The mats help show up the cable on the deck used to clip body harnesses to. It's a model but it shows the Minigun Mount (with armour plate) and the doors a lot better. Apologies for the long post
Admiral189 Posted July 6, 2021 Author Posted July 6, 2021 --Hey Cdodders sounds like you need to learn how to create 3D model Shipmate!! I love your wish list!! The more detailed models with all the features are way out of my budget and their costly! Those textures were provided by Eddie! I know what your saying. I like the weathered look as well but it doesn't always work out for me. The textures just don't come out right. Remember i'm a 24 year retired Boatswains Mate Chief. I remember the days of hanging over the side in a boatswains chair, rowing around the ship in a Punt or on a Paint Float. There's not one port in the world where we didn't paint the side of the ship. I hated it but we got it done!! --Thanks Arrow11, I love those photos and I really appreciate all of guys compliments on the mods. I love what i do and i will keep creating models until i can't do it anymore. I was actually thinking about taking up classes as you all know texturing is my weak point but that doesn't stop me. So as long you guys keep playing with the models i will keep creating them. --Gunter i will reach out to you for testing. I will test the Harrier and F-35 with weapons to see what happens. Thank you all!! 1
Admiral189 Posted July 6, 2021 Author Posted July 6, 2021 Just tested the Harrier with what i assume is a full load out and the F-35 with about 4 JDAMS. No problems at all lifting off. The F-35 did sink a little towards the sea but it lifted off no problem.
toan Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 (edited) Hi Admiral, Did you try the Harrier with two 300 gallons tanks, plus a full bomb load ? This doesn't work for my AI Harrier on a tremplin deck. It works however on the USS Tarawa : the speed is 100 knots at the end of the flight deck, the aircraft then goes down to 50 feet above water and then accelerates to normal flight... Fly low... toan Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 (edited) Admiral, I'm using your Mods every day, so we all need your excellent Mods. Below is a screenshot of a small part of my armada, sailing in the Persian Gulf. A carrier group with the QE is formed with an escort of several Duncan frigates, not shown here. Also, several other carrier groups with the Th. Roosevelt, Charles de Gaulle, and Clemenceau carriers are formed with their escorts, involving several instances of the USS Constellation, Aquitaine, La Fayette, Durance, HMCS Montreal, USS Kidd and Patuxent ships. They are not shown here. They escort an international amphibious task force shown below (see screenshot), which includes all your Mods : San Antonio, Oak Hill, LCAC, etc. They are chased by the Kuznetsov and Liaoning red carrier groups with their escorts. The blue carrier groups are also attacked by red squadrons of land-based Su-34, Tu-22 strike bombers with anti-ship missiles. Similarly, the red Kuznetsov and Liaoning carrier groups are attacked by blue carrier-based SEM, Rafale, EA-6B Prowler and F/A-18 anti-ship strike flights, launching AGM-88, AGM-84, Scalp and Exocet missiles. And of course, each carrier group is protected by its own on-board CAP squadrons of SEM, Rafale and F-18 fighters, and orbiting EWR, and AAR tankers. A fierce air and naval battle develops, as shown here by the 2 Tactical Overviews displayed on the screenshot by DCS. Overall, as shown in the 2nd screenshot, this includes 111 aircraft, 70 ships, 18 helos and 97 static objects, for a grand total of 296 units... I use the powerful MOOSE mission scripting environment to define each side defense zones, strikes and CAP. The most demanding part for the MOOSE software is that the blue and red defense zones overlap. This means that there can be at one time 7 defense CAP tasks on the blue side (usually several 2 fighters patrols), engaging 12 defense tasks on the red side... notwithstandng all ongoing anti-ship strike fligths on both sides (usually multiple 4 aircraft missile strike flights). DCS + MOOSE allow this complex scenario to execute correctly and seamlessly. Excellent work Admiral, your Mods are amazing. They are central to my scenarios. Sorry for this very long post, Fly low... Admiral189 Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 (edited) Thanks Toan! That's amazing. That's a really good battle group! The USS America will be great asset once i'm finished! Once i get the landing light animation completed. It shouldn't be long after that for release! The harrier couldn't take off with the 300 gallon tanks. Edited July 7, 2021 by Admiral189 1

My test with the AI Harrier on the USS Tarawa, with two 300 gallons tanks and a bomb load, were performed with a rolling take-off, indeed. But this was the AI version of the aircraft, and it barely succeeded as mentioned previously, with questionable security margins, let's say... I don't know for the user version. Admiral, yes, I'm looking forward for the USS America. Your efforts and Mods are amazing. Many thanks, Fly low... Note : for those who wonder, my "Fly low" signature comes for a live recording during the Desert Storm ops. It was available on the Web, and one could hear a damaged F-16 or F-15 being advised by the ground control to divert to a friendly airbase... and to "Fly low" repeated twice, because of enemy defenses....
