Dragon1-1 Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Yeah, more than Russia did. I think Russians ultimately bought 16 MiG-29S airframes, and that was that. The rest was sold to Peru, Angola and Sudan, among others. Some ended up in Belarus, but I don't think Belarus actually flew them. It would have been nice to have the S, for the sake of replacing FC3 if nothing else, but for now we're getting the A.

F-2 Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Quote Peru's missile triggers Latin unrest 9 July 2001 Save article Please Sign in to your account to use this feature Peru has gained an active-radar-guided beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air missile capability, a move which could force the USA to rethink supply of Raytheon AIM-120s to the region. Peru's capability will strengthen the hand of Chile and other Latin American countries which have repeatedly sought similar capabilities from the USA. Washington has always declined such approaches, not wishing to release AMRAAM until a comparable system enters service in the region. Local television pictures, taken at a VIP demonstration earlier this year, show Vympel R-77 (RVV-AE/AA-12 Adder) missiles alongside a Peruvian air force RSK MiG-29 Fulcrum. Although it is not clear whether the missile is an operational or training round, the pictures confirm Russian claims that it has sold the weapon to Peru. ADVERT The fighter appears to be one of three MiG-29SEs acquired by Peru from Russia in 1998; part of a support deal for other Russian fighters that had been acquired from Belarus in 1995. Russia had refused to support the initial aircraft as they were not acquired from the manufacturer. Peru went on to order 30 R-77s in 1999. Brazil and Chile are both seeking BVR missiles. Santiago requested such weapons for its pending Lockheed Martin F-16 acquisition and has integrated the Rafael Derby BVR missile on its Israeli-upgraded NorthropF-5s. Integrating the missile with the F-16, however, may depend on Washington's support. Brazil is looking to equip its upgraded F-5BRs with such a capability and the winner of its F-X new fighter competition is also likely to be delivered with BVR missiles. F-2 Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 A year ago I asked about the Moldovan migs that were purchased by the US government in 1997. I got a promising response today Quote This is to acknowledge receipt of your 13-Aug-23, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for In 1997 the United Sates purchased 21 Mig-29 aircraft from the Moldovan government. Between October and November 1997 these aircraft were delivered to the national air and space intelligence center at Wright-Patterson AFB 14 of these aircraft were Mig-29S “Fulcrum-C” Would it be possible to review any documentation sold with the aircraft as well as the results of exploration of these aircraft by NASIC. Also included in the sale were 507 air-to-air missiles, including 344 R-60 AA-8 Aphids, 112 R-73 AA-11 Archers and 51 R-27 AA-10 Alamos. Can any documentation included with these missiles as well as the results of any exploration by NASIC be reviewed for release. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1997-nov-05-mn-50473-story.html https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1997/11/05/us-captures-mig-jets-in-secret-deal/c66992f5-48df-4d72-b519-bb40c849c8b0/ https://www.c-span.org/video/?94736-1/us-purchase-moldovan-aircraft https://www.nytimes.com/1997/11/09/weekinreview/november-2-8-the-us-takes-a-few-migs-off-moldova-s-hands.html. Based on our initial review, we believe we cannot process your request within the statutory 20 workdays because our organization has a significant number of pending FOIA requests. To ensure all requesters are properly served in the order their requests were received, we have instituted multitrack processing of requests. Based on the information you provided, we have placed your request in the complex track. The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides for the collection of fees based on the costs of processing a FOIA request and your fee category. Based upon the information provided in your request, we have placed you in the Other category. We have assigned number 2023-05606-F to identify your request; should you need to contact us about your request. Please direct your questions to the HAF FOIA team at SAF.AA.HAF.FOIA.Workflow@us.af.mil and use this assigned number to assist us in responding more promptly. We will strive to provide an update between 90 and 120 days. Our policy is to process requests within their respective tracks in the order in which they were received in accordance with 32 CFR, Part 286.8. We will notify you in writing if additional processing time is required. We do process each FOIA request as quickly as possible, however delayed responses can be expected. Quote Just to give you a further update. There may be significant delays in getting this information to you. The documents need to be translated and then go through a declassification process. Currently we do not have an estimated date of completion due to the complex nature of the request, and the need to coordinate with other offices and departments. We thank you for your continued patience. on one hand that sounds like it will be many months. On the other pretty much every detail scrutinized on Soviet aircraft as well as the R-60, R-73, and R-27R. I’ll keep you posted. 1 2
Dragon1-1 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Given the pace of DCS aircraft development, ED may or may not finish the A model before those are available. This could allow us to get the S sometime in the future. It did have an interesting international career. 1

Fingers crossed, I actually had made the request before ED announced the Fulcrum. also maybe a detailed breakdown of R60 R73 and R27R. We’ll also see exactly how a Soviet Fulcrum differs from an export jet.
