Willie Nelson Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Can anyone point me toward some new technique that ED is trying in an experimental form. I saw a video on it a few days ago but I can’t seem to find it in my history. The person who made the video indicated that a line in the code needed to be changed and suggested that it had something to do with not drawing what was not in shot. Importantly, it was suggested to provide significant improvements in frame rate. Bit of a shot in the dark but hopefully someone can help me out. i7700k OC to 4.8GHz with Noctua NH-U14S (fan) with AORUS RTX2080ti 11GB Waterforce. 32GDDR, Warthog HOTAS and Saitek rudders. metalnwood Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 I think you may be referring to culling as shown here
Willie Nelson Posted September 2, 2020 Author Posted September 2, 2020 That’s the one, thank you very much. Incidentally, anyone here tried it. Worthwhile or not? i7700k OC to 4.8GHz with Noctua NH-U14S (fan) with AORUS RTX2080ti 11GB Waterforce. 32GDDR, Warthog HOTAS and Saitek rudders. HP Reverb.
speed-of-heat Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 It does improve perf, it also excarcbates the one eye rendering problem...at least at the moment, and there are other graphical artifacts... It is not really ready yet... And Bignewy and other have said so many times SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat

speed-of-heat Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 No reason you should, and everyone's view of "good/ready" is different, so it is always worth personal experimentation... Lt_Jaeger Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 The only problem I got in the Moment is - the ambient lighting in the Tomcat (I almost fly her exclusivly) is only rendered on one eye - some distance stuff is sometimes only rendered on one eye (seems to be the same with option turned off) -sometimes see stuff pop up at the far end of the FOV (Index HMD) but in the moment that seems exclusivly in the NTTR Map So, I'm using it with some frame improvement in busy areas with no big problems
Lt_Jaeger Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Not so much more frams, but more stable in a busy enviroment. On the busy SC it might be around +5ish, which can make a difference in being playable or not.
Willie Nelson Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 Sounds worth a go. Does it cause any complications with multiplayer integrity check? i7700k OC to 4.8GHz with Noctua NH-U14S (fan) with AORUS RTX2080ti 11GB Waterforce. 32GDDR, Warthog HOTAS and Saitek rudders. HP Reverb.

DerekSpeare Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 I enabled this to see what it does. Big New's admonishment not to use it is noted. I have to do more tests, but I don't see any crazy side effects other than the right-eye-flood-lights. I still need a beefier GPU since my 1080ti isn't enough. FoxTwo Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 If your headset FoV is greater than ~90 degrees you'll catch geometry disappearing in your peripheral vision. Also some water geometry gets mapped incorrectly, mostly around the shore area (water at different heights in each eye, ghost land textures, etc ), in addition to the lighting issues. What's funny is that it also fixes some things not rendering in both eyes, like the AV8B engine blades.
Dangerzone Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Oooh - just came across this. This will be interesting to try. Should this help with CPU as well, or is it solely to take pressure of the GPU?
