[W.I.P]stereo_mode_use_shared_parser New experimental technique to improve VR?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone point me toward some new technique that ED is trying in an experimental form. I saw a video on it a few days ago but I can’t seem to find it in my history. The person who made the video indicated that a line in the code needed to be changed and suggested that it had something to do with not drawing what was not in shot.

Importantly, it was suggested to provide significant improvements in frame rate. Bit of a shot in the dark but hopefully someone can help me out.

That’s the one, thank you very much. Incidentally, anyone here tried it. Worthwhile or not?

It does improve perf, it also excarcbates the one eye rendering problem...at least at the moment, and there are other graphical artifacts... It is not really ready yet... And Bignewy and other have said so many times

Ok, I didn’t know that, sorry.

No reason you should, and everyone's view of "good/ready" is different, so it is always worth personal experimentation... It's simple to change

The only problem I got in the Moment is

- the ambient lighting in the Tomcat (I almost fly her exclusivly) is only rendered on one eye

- some distance stuff is sometimes only rendered on one eye (seems to be the same with option turned off)

-sometimes see stuff pop up at the far end of the FOV (Index HMD) but in the moment that seems exclusivly in the NTTR Map

So, I'm using it with some frame improvement in busy areas with no big problems

Sounds worth a go. Does it cause any complications with multiplayer integrity check?

no those you only run into if you make changes to the dcs game directory , this is in your saved games directory so no implications on IC

Hi all,

Use of stereo_mode_use_shared_parser is not recommended, it is work in progress and will have side effects.

If you are reporting VR problems please disable it before reporting.

thanks

Agreed, the perf benefit today is not that great, and there are regular graphic artefacts , such as transparent sea and rendering differences in each eye as well as a reduced fov... caveat emptor

Thanks for the heads up, nice to know ED is on the case though. Surely a sign of good things to come.

I enabled this to see what it does. Big New's admonishment not to use it is noted.

I have to do more tests, but I don't see any crazy side effects other than the right-eye-flood-lights. I still need a beefier GPU since my 1080ti isn't enough.

If your headset FoV is greater than ~90 degrees you'll catch geometry disappearing in your peripheral vision. Also some water geometry gets mapped incorrectly, mostly around the shore area (water at different heights in each eye, ghost land textures, etc ), in addition to the lighting issues.

What's funny is that it also fixes some things not rendering in both eyes, like the AV8B engine blades.
