From the latest of wag's videos, it seems that it will still be possible to change the laser code of ordnance via the stores management.

Isn't this highly unrealistic? I was under the impression that newer modules already got it right with laser code being changed by ground crew only.

Am i missing something?

It is unrealistic for normal old LGB's it may be true for LJDAM's tho.

It’s workaround in the sim, because we can’t walk outside with a screwdriver to the weapon to set the code.

If you want a certain level of realism, you set the codes at mission starts, and never touch them again in flight.

If a codes need to change (buddy lasing), you change the one in the TGP.

Real laser JDAMs can set their laser code through the 1766 digital interface in flight. I think also laser Maverick can change in flight too over 1533 interface or whatever special wire they have. Paveway II have no such connection and laser code is set with a screwdriver.

Really it is JTAC which should be changed. When you call in with what weapons you are carrying you also say what laser code(s) those weapons are. JTAC changes his laser to match your weapons not the other way.

That's why other aircraft (M2000C, F-5E, F-16C, F-14) have you change the bomb laser code on the kneeboard with engines off. That's the closest you can get currently to using a scredriver on the bombs itself and hence much closer to real life than how it works in the A-10C and F/A-18C.

Once get the mission card feature we will be able to change laser codes there AFAIK. The best solution would be to change the code on the rearming window though.

I'm good with the kneeboard option, for now...

Same. It comes close enough to real life, as it brings the same limitations (you need to be on the ground) and doesn't create fake options on our MFD/DDI/MPCD/UFC as it does for the Hornet and Warthog.

Needs two features implemented.

1) Laser code change button to weapons rearming window

2) Laser code transmission to JTAC for it to change it so.

And as a bonus feature:

3) Laser code randomization for mission startup, so that communication is required and less likely two players in air start has same codes.

1 & 2 are okay, but it's an extra step whether you're happy with the loadout or not, you need to go to the rearm window and change it and wait. Would be equally unrealistic for an SP runway hot start mission, and, oh wait for the ground crew to run over to the runway with their screwdriver. I'd be happier with #3, or, simply only allow DSMS INV laser code change on the ground for the weapons that don't allow inflight. Then we can pretend we got the right codes in the first place and just update the DSMS.
