Hello. Trying DCS with Quest 2 using 2,8gbps usb connection and link. Quality setting is highest, tried 3664 resolution on oculus link beta and non-beta (seems not to make a difference), maxed out bandwidth.

My new GPU is still pending, but dispite bad fps with my current old GPU i've tried relatively high settings just sitting in the cockpit, but i cannot get very good clarity. But this is my first VR experience, i am not sure am i expecting too much from VR...?

When i sit in my hornet, not leaning forward, i can see the smaller texts on ddi's, but they are a bit blurry and i can read them fast only because i know what to read.... I also tried Aerofly FS2 maxxed out and that too is a bit blurry, the instruments are ok (not great but decent), can read them but even the cessna radiostack is a tad smudgy. The scenery is also somewhat blurry. Loading screens look very good and i can use chrome and read websites in VR just fine, while the resolution clearly isn't monitor quality. I've tried to eliminate my eyes being the problem (i do not use glasses and my ipd should be around 63-64mm so pretty optimal i guess), cleaning the lenses and whatnot...

Is this how VR just is? If so, it's a bit dissapointing, since i find this smoothness/blurriness to be very tiring to my eyes.

Please tell me how VR should look, using the hornet for example, on what HMD. Do you need to lean forward to see _clearly_ etc?

I understand the Link is still in betaphase, but any reason to believe it will improve a lot? Q2 has much better resolution than Rift S, but i only hear people using Rift S how clear everything is..

Thanks alot!

Is your usb connection 3.1?Which usb cable are you using?

Clarity in VR depends much from Supersampling. So you should try the VR settings in DCS (as a baseline) and then use Oculus debug tool or Oculus tray tool (as an older Rift S user I advice you to use this tool) to test with different levels of Pixel Density.

Being the Quest 2 a standalone HMD, there is another variable which is the link cable. Here is important to have a good quality cable (the original one, or anker one adviced on the official site) and a fast usb connection because of the bandwitdth.

Doesn't the sim zoom work with VR?

No there is VR zoom, and SpyGlass zoom...but it is a toggle button (not analog like in 2d simming).

That's weird. Quest 2 resolution is way better than my Rift s and only slightly less than reverb / reverb g2; you should have a good clarity with pixel density set to 1 (so no supersampling). I'm considering upgrade my headset and gpu (from current 2070 to 3080 or 6800xt maybe) and I'm still undecided between quest 2 and reverb g2. I'm more towards the g2 even if I'll loose my oculus software (I'll sell my Rift s), so the Quest 2 could be a good alternative to save my oculus library, but if it's not so good in clarity... maybe it's up to the oculus link connection?

But i do not know what it should be. I understand VR is never the same as your best monitors. But i keep hearing that Oculus Link is not fully implemented to Quest 2. Some say it lacks the 90hz (it certainly does) but some say that it works with lower resolution of Quest 1. Don't know for sure. But Q1 has 40% or so less pixels and running the LCD on non-native resolution, would indeed cause issues. Only time will tell for sure. I personally get solid 2.8gbps connection and the link seems to be working fine otherwise.

Games like Dirt rally, the visuals are great, since you do not need to read anything small.

But the FOV is very bad. G2 probably is not much better either.

It's really hard to say without seeing what you're seeing. It could be setting issue or it could be Quest. Or simply that your expectation was too high. VR in general is not as clear as 4K definitely but I was hoping Quest2 and Reverb2 would be comparable to 1080P.

Some things you could try is disabling MSAA or any type of anti aliasing. And make sure you're not using any depth of field or motion blur or bloom. Those are usually turned on by default on "Max" setting.

You will not lose your Oculus library, even if you sell your Rift S. Just don't uninstall the Oculus Software and get Revive for Steam VR, you'll then be able to enjoy all your Oculus games with the G2.

In DCS Hornet, the button-texts on the cockpit displays, like "sa, hsi, menu" etc, i can barely see them without leaning in, and the fact i KNOW what it says plays a role. If i lean in i can see them pretty good but i still notice how the resolution is not very good. In IL2 Sturmovik, i can see the analog gauges of P51 mustang, but it's not very clear, and cockpit texts are mostly quite fuzzy.... From what i've HEARD is that all those should be more clear.

But yeah, this would easily be an issue with Oculus Link not using full resolution, but how can i check that? the debugtool does absolutely nothing for me.

Partially solved, oculus link software updated so i can use proper resolutions. Much better now, not quite perfect but i think i can fine tune the rest and now my GPU is limiting the fun
