Native resolution / Open XR support?

Hi guys,

 

A guy on the VR FB group posted this link: 

 

 

 

Can someone here confirm whether this actually works for DCS Steam users?  

Am I right in saying that this is called native resolution support?

 

I tried it but doesn't seem to do very much. I did a search here and read about native resolution support discussions from a year ago but nothing recent. 

 

So, does actually work with DCS ?

no it doesn't; it works in native WMR ... DCS isnt 

thats said you can get similar results by lowering the SS percentage in Steam...

I wish we could move away from SteamVR.  I keep getting crashes in SteamVR only, my DCS is still running.  This all started in Version 1.15.15.  I was hoping that Open XR would be a good alternative.  I'm not muck of a Steam fan.

I thought that SteamVR now supported OpenXR.

interesting, yes it does, but it seems to ignore the OpenXR settings are at least not respect them ... as my OpenXR renderscale is 70% and steam still shows it as the whatever the headset is set as default

I'm running it just fine, steamVR lists openXR as the active runtime.

 

You need two separate apps from the MS store, one is the openXR app itself, the other is the tool to access the app and set it [OpenXR Developer Tools for Windows Mixed Reality].

Only one App shows in Microsoft Store, which is the WMR OpenXR development tools ?   what do you mean by "the openXR app itself" ?

So, do I still need to start steamvr or wmr for steamvr then? 

 

Or do I just need WMR and openXR then?

Thanks! In that case it really makes no sense to use an additional program that could possibly mess around.

if you look in Settings>Apps, there are 2 apps for OpenXR - OpenXR for WMR and OpenXR Dev Tools. My guess is that the former is installed by default. I'm going to uninstall the Dev Tools and see what happens.  Not sure we need this at all.

I've been tempted to try OpenXr but than it begs the question whether slider in OpenXr Dev Tool is the one that controls SS or SteamVr one is still active. The change of the software used is signified in SteamVr Dev tools. 

 

Honestly there is way too much software to run those WMR headsets. I envy Oculus users.

Easy to tell.  Set SteamVR to a value of say 100%, note the pixels, then vary the OpenXR dev tools, vary the slider and see if the res changes in fpsVR.

EDIT: Of course, it's not as simple as that as fpsVR doesn't actually show pixel setting, just SteamVR SS rate.  Oh well...

Nope. Using Detect Resolution tool in fpsVR its the same as set in SteamVR, i.e. 100 % = 3160x3092. And the same is detected by fpsVR. 

I moved custom render scale to 50 % and even restarted entire software. Not a thing changed in res.

Yep, same here. It does however affect FS2020, so I guess DCS just doesn't use OpenXR. Not sure.

Not surprised. I think only Oculus gets native support in DCS. Perhaps Bignewy, now that he drives G2, will have some impact.

Don’t know. There was talk of G1 getting native support when it came out and nothing happened. 
Anyway, I’m not sure about native support. That would mean not being able to use all the other SteamVR settings which can be pretty useful.

Just a matter of implementation of sufficient amount of features. Point is to have less software running in the background. Right now the amount is just crazy and clearly causing issues. And SteamVr is just not liked.

I think ‘just crazy’ is a bit of an exaggeration!  Currently WMR and SteamVR, not a lot really. 
SteamVR not liked? By whom? It is certainly liked by me. I run all my VR games through it. Works very nicely and doesn’t take up many resources. Very little in fact.
