hello.

i have spend the last 6 months building a min sim-pit in preparation for DCS black shark.

i am almost done with the collective..hope to start flying soon on FSX, BF2, JLB2, and EECH.

occasionally, i get bumbed out about how slow my progress is, so i look here and the vids for motivation.

one vid i look at...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=OM-PY8NWfkQ

i hear different rotor blade sounds, of various degrees of refraction and reflection.

i really hope the final release will have more of a realistic sound like in this

also, glowing amraam's video clip

at 0:54 secs has a more realistic sound of the black shark...

i dont know whats up with those videos from simHQ, and DCS producers notes, but the Ka-50 sounds are a bit weak.

i hope at final version, the release will have more realistic sounds...one that allows u to hear the cutting of the blades, and the whine of the engine together to have that AWESOME audio experience...

sound, along with gfx makes the experience...

this vid also has cool rotor sounds...(can NOT say the same for weapon sounds)

owe yea...if this game can do the cool looking swirl effects on smoke..i will be truly amazed x100

I hope too that we will have new great sounds, and maybe few new ground explosions (this same is so boring from LO).

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

5.1 hardware accelerated sound? ;) Dolby Digital and stuff ;) I don't think ED is actually working on new sound engine, let's just hope they'll make very good stock sound samples - if not - there are always modders! Look what kind of great sound packs we already have for Lock On.

lol..5.1? we would like DCS black shark to be out soon, not in 10 years...

all i am saying is to be accurate with the sounds...as i mentioned before, the current sounds heard on the prducers notes are weak...

i like what glowing amraam used for his movie clips..they sound like a actually Ka-50.

I used to live in 3rd battalion of the city of cali colombia. I got used to see several types of helis over the years. the mi-17 was a sound beast with a mix of different sounds (hoaa!)

the uh1h sound pretty similar to a ka-32 (the only one that we have) , but once it got closer you could heard the differences in the engine sounds.

the uh-60 (makes a great noise too) if it is coming at you at low altitude and high speed; you could get surprised by them because you heard them only when they pass over your head:pilotfly:!

Im doing sounds for armed assault and are working on the ka50 atm. Its hard when the config is very limited and all material is from youtube etc. But its getting better and better. When it comes to weapons i got a lot of sounds, very realistic ones and will share with anyone wanting them. Im going to coninue to bring out a long good sample loop of the kamov and will ask someone here that have heard them in real life if its good enough :)

In my experience so far (watching Ka-32s take off and land several times a day) I can say that they sound just very similar to a Chinook. The sound in that vid sounds more like a lawnmower to me. I know I'm not being very helpful, so I apologize for that. If I had a way to record them I'd certainly do it.

why not directly record and analysis what a real ka-50 would sound and do some digital sound processing?

Because it won't do for a true helli sim.

Helicopter sound is very complex and consists of:

Engines sound (separate)

Rotor blades sounds - low frequecy sound of general airflow and high frequency sound of blade tips.

APU is also separate sound.

Main problem is that these sounds never stay in constant ratio (only for constant speed and level flight or hover). In actual simulation we have nonstop transition of sound ratio. Reason for this is helli propulsion system construction. Engines are not hard linked with rotors, there fore we already have no constant ratio for sound system.

PS. Sorry for my English. Hope, You'll understand what I mean.

Correct. ;)

Current sound system allows piloting w/o watching at control gauges (engine RPM and main rotor RPM) - You'll simply hear them.

Like driving a car without tachometer.

Will the sound be diffrent depending from where you look at the helicopter? I.E. louder engine sound if you are directly at the exhausts or less intense if you look from ahead?

Yes, this feature was even in LO 1.0 so in DCS it will be too.

Compressor and exhaust noise are different in regarding where you look from.

By the way (Laivinas did not say) blades flapping sound is dynamic in DCS depending on several parameters of air flow throw the blade.

Ahhh:P

I mean, separate every sub systems and analysis their sounds in all cases then use a digital sound processing function to dynamically simulate the sounds. Could it?:P

Sound synthesis in real time would IMHO eat lots of CPU time, i think they use several loops which can be adjusted in pitch and amplitude.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.
